Background

Rob Clayton is one of three co-founders of DRC Capital LLP, which he established in 2012 alongside Dale Lattanzio and Cyrus Korat as an independent investment adviser focused on the European real estate debt sector. He has served as a Partner since the firm's incorporation on 1 April 2012, holding (per regulatory filings) an individual ownership stake of between 10% and 25%. The firm is headquartered in London and grew to manage roughly £2.9 billion across UK and European senior debt, high-yield, and whole-loan products.

Clayton brings more than 29 years of real estate and debt-markets experience. Immediately prior to founding DRC, he was a Senior Investment Manager at Duet Private Equity Limited. Earlier in his career he was Director of Structured Finance at the Topland Group of Companies, and held roles at CIT Group PLC, Glaven Investments Ltd, and the Industrial Bank of Japan Ltd — a background concentrated in structured and property finance rather than venture investing.

He holds a BA (Hons) in Economic and Social Studies from the University of East Anglia (1979–1982) and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI).

In July 2018, Savills Investment Management acquired an initial 25% of DRC Capital with a call option over the remainder; Savills IM exercised that option (announced 2021, completing with milestone payments through 2024) to take full control of the business for up to £65 million, rebranding it "DRC Savills Investment Management." Under that transition Dale Lattanzio continued to lead the platform, with Clayton and Korat remaining involved as members of the senior management team providing ongoing support.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in commercial real estate debt across the capital structure — senior loans, high-yield/mezzanine, and whole-loan products — for institutional investors, *not* startup equity.
  • Geographic mandate centered on the UK and Continental Europe, with the broader platform extending into the US real estate debt market from 2022.
  • Strategy is built around being an independent, specialist real estate credit adviser with disciplined underwriting of property-backed lending; at the time of profile the platform managed roughly £2.9bn in AUM.
  • Founder-level focus reflects Clayton's structured-finance pedigree (Duet, Topland, CIT, Industrial Bank of Japan), i.e. property finance and credit risk rather than seed-stage technology bets.

Notable Investments

  • DRC European Real Estate Debt fund series — the firm's flagship closed-end vehicles deploying senior and high-yield real estate loans across UK/Europe.
  • Whole-loan and senior-debt strategies — DRC's core product set within its ~£2.9bn AUM.
  • US real estate debt joint venture (2022) — DRC Savills IM entered the US market via a joint venture (reported with QCP), extending the platform beyond Europe.
