Background

Rob Genieser is Managing Partner at ETF Partners, the London-based Environmental Technologies Fund. He joined ETF Partners as Managing Partner in 2010 and works on sustainable technology investments across the firm’s portfolio.

Before ETF Partners, Genieser was Managing Partner for Vertex in Europe, a subsidiary of Temasek, where he spent eight years overseeing investments in technology companies. Earlier in his career, he was a Managing Director at JP Morgan in Europe and at Hambrecht & Quist in Silicon Valley.

Genieser has also served as Chairman of the Sustainability Chapter and as a board member of the International Venture Club, described by ETF Partners as a leading advocacy group for venture capital in Europe. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School, and also studied at the Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • ETF Partners’ core thesis is that sustainability and commercial value can be mutually reinforcing. The firm describes itself as investing in businesses that “deliver sustainability through innovation.”
  • The firm focuses on companies with rapidly growing revenue or the potential for large-scale commercial success, which it frames as a prerequisite for sustainability impact.
  • ETF Partners’ portfolio is organized around five market segments: Energy Transition, Future Mobility, Green Connectivity, Responsible Consumer, and Sustainable Food.
  • Genieser’s stated excitement about sustainable investing is Europe-specific: he says the current environmental technology wave is being driven by entrepreneurs leading an “environmental revolution,” with governments, large corporations, and European consumers aligned behind the shift.
  • In ETF Partners’ 2026 Impact Investor finalist announcement, the firm stated its thesis that the most consequential companies will align environmental imperatives with enduring commercial value.
  • Genieser appears to favor companies where the sustainability case is inseparable from the customer-value case, as reflected in ETF Partners’ commentary on Flyability: industries adopt the technology because it is faster, safer, and more efficient, not only because it is sustainable.
