Background
Robert (Rob) W. Dolan is a Pittsburgh-based private-equity investor with roughly 13+ years of buyout experience. He graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and is a CFA charterholder. He began his career in strategy and M&A consulting at Oliver Wyman (the financial-institutions group), reportedly from around 2005 to 2011, before moving fully into private equity.
Dolan joined PNC Equity Partners (later PNC Equity Management Corp.) as an associate in 2008, working on the investment teams for deals including The Orthotic Group, APEX Analytix, and Wheaton Industries. In April 2012 he was announced as joining PNC Riverarch Capital — the control-equity buyout affiliate of PNC Bank — where he rose to Principal and then Managing Director (a role he held until 2023). There he was responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and executing leveraged buyouts and advising portfolio companies on strategy and value creation, serving as a board director of four portfolio companies spanning specialty chemicals, dental products, and cleaning/safety products.
Since departing PNC, Dolan has been Managing Partner at Falcon Bridge Consulting in Pittsburgh. He has also served as a board director at TCP Analytical, a chemical manufacturing and distribution business. Outside of investing, he was deeply engaged with the ACG Pittsburgh community for nearly a decade, spending five years on the Future Corporate Leadership (FCL) Board, most recently as its Chairman, and has served on the young-professional board of Junior Achievement of Western PA. Personal notes from an ACG spotlight: he's a runner, skier, and wakeboarder, and can solve a Rubik's Cube in under three minutes.
Investment Thesis & Focus

- Sector concentration built over his career: value-added distribution, specialized/niche manufacturing, business & industrial services, software and tech-enabled services.
- His stated role focus: *"sourcing, negotiating, and executing investments, as well as advising portfolio companies on strategy and value creating initiatives."*
- At PNC Riverarch, equity investment sizing ran roughly $10M–$50M (the affiliated Riverarch Equity Partners platform targets $5M–$30M EBITDA companies with $25M–$150M checks) — a lower-to-core-middle-market mandate.
