Background

Roberto Meneguzzo (born 6 February 1956 in Malo, Province of Vicenza) is one of the best-known figures in Northern Italian finance and the founder of the Palladio group. He graduated in Economics from Ca' Foscari University of Venice in 1979, qualified as an Italian Chartered Accountant in 1981, and pursued postgraduate coursework at U.C. Berkeley, Boston University, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, along with an internship at Banca Commerciale Italiana in New York.

In 1980 he co-founded Palladio Leasing S.p.A., a Triveneto-based leasing company that grew rapidly through the 1980s; Mediobanca acquired a majority stake in 1989 and completed the buyout over the following decade. In 1982 he founded Palladio Finanziaria S.p.A., which became one of the most important merchant banks serving mid-sized companies in North-East Italy. The firm — today rebranded PFH (Palladio Holding) — invests through controlled and affiliated investment companies and private equity funds and advises companies on corporate finance and M&A.

For more than four decades Meneguzzo has built PFH's core business around private equity, with a strong secondary focus on renewable-energy investment through vehicles such as VEI Green and Venice S.p.A. He led the firm as CEO and today serves as its founder and vice chairman/vice president, while day-to-day management has passed to a next-generation leadership team (CEO Nicola Iorio). He sits or has sat on the boards of related entities including VEI Capital, Venice S.p.A., VGH S.p.A., Alcedo SGR, and Ferak S.p.A.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Private equity as the core business: invests capital, resources, and know-how into non-listed Italian companies, taking minority or majority positions and acting as a "hands-on partner" to reach the next level of growth.
  • Mid-market focus: targets established medium-sized Italian companies, especially in the North-East, but also backs "greenfield" ventures still in an embryonic phase.
  • Renewable energy conviction: a long-standing thematic emphasis on renewables, pursued through subsidiaries such as VEI Green.
  • Larger tickets via PH Capital: the newly launched PH Capital vehicle targets ~€400 million with equity tickets of €20–70 million, signaling a move toward larger buyout/growth deals.
  • Advisory alongside capital: the group pairs investment with corporate-finance and M&A advisory for portfolio and client companies.

Notable Investments

  • Eagleprojects — Umbria-based "smart engineering" company (digital inspection, monitoring, and AI/robotics for infrastructure and networks); PFH/Palladio Holding acquired ~70% in 2026, with founder Giovacchino Rosati retaining ~30%.
  • PH Capital — new private equity vehicle launched by Palladio Holding, targeting ~€400 million in investments (2026).
  • VEI Green / Venice S.p.A. — Palladio subsidiaries channeling substantial investment into renewable energy.
  • Milione / SAVE (Venice Marco Polo Airport) — Palladio has been involved in the Venice airport ownership structure; Milione (SAVE's controlling company) secured an €80M EIB financing in 2026 for electrification and sustainability.
  • VEI Capital, Alcedo SGR, Ferak S.p.A., VGH S.p.A. — affiliated investment and holding vehicles within the Palladio ecosystem.
  • Palladio Leasing (1980, exited to Mediobanca 1989–90s) — his first major venture and an early successful exit.
