Background
Robyn Petrou is a senior Australian financial-services executive with more than 20 years in the industry, including roughly 12 years as Chief Executive Officer of a superannuation fund. She led Energy Super (and its subsidiary ESI Financial Services), an industry fund serving workers in the energy sector, from around 2009 until her departure in 2021 ahead of the fund's merger with LGIAsuper (now Brighter Super). Under her leadership the fund grew to roughly $6–7.5 billion in funds under management, and she oversaw large-scale digital, regulatory and cultural transformations, mergers and acquisitions, and investment-strategy execution. Earlier in her career she held a compliance and operations management role at Asset Super (which merged with CareSuper in 2012).
Her tenure was widely recognised: she was named FEAL's Fund Executive of the Year (2013) and CEO Magazine's Financial Services Executive of the Year, and she was a finalist in the Telstra Business Women's Awards. She has been a member of Chief Executive Women (CEW) and active in initiatives advancing women in leadership within the superannuation industry.
Petrou's formal education spans an economics degree from Macquarie University, management study at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, directorship studies at Melbourne Business School, and organisation-leadership study at London Business School. She holds the CPA, GAICD and FGIA post-nominals.
Since leaving Energy Super she has worked as an executive coach and mentor with Executive Performance Partners (15+ years mentoring leaders alongside her executive career) and holds several governance roles. Per her LinkedIn, these include Independent Chair of the Australian Medical Association's Finance and Investment Committee and non-executive directorships (including roles associated with ART Life / retirement-trust life insurance and the Queensland Building and Construction Commission).
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Petrou's investment experience is institutional, not angel/venture — it centres on setting and executing the investment strategy of a multi-billion-dollar superannuation fund on behalf of members, and on investment governance as a committee chair and director.
- Stated professional focus (Executive Performance Partners): "delivering business growth through developing and executing corporate and investment strategies, commercial negotiations, stakeholder relations, M&A and project management."
- As Energy Super CEO she framed decisions around member interest: *"Energy Super's priority is, and always will be, to protect our members' best interests."*
- No angel/seed investing thesis, check size, or startup-focused mandate could be verified. The stub's "Angel Investors / Seed Round" attributes are not supported by any source found.
Notable Investments
- No individual angel or venture investments could be verified. Publicly documented, research does not attribute any startup/seed portfolio to Robyn Petrou.
- Her most relevant "investment" record is institutional: steering the investment strategy and asset base of Energy Super (~$6–7.5B FUM, tens of thousands of members) as CEO, including merger/M&A activity, rather than direct company backing.
