Background
Rohit Sarin is the co-founder and partner of Client Associates, which he started in 2002 with Himanshu Kohli as India's first multi-family office. The firm has grown into one of India's largest independent private-wealth platforms, advising 1,100+ wealthy families and reporting assets in the region of ₹50,000 crore (roughly US$6 billion). Sarin brings roughly three decades of experience in family offices and private banking, and before founding the firm he held roles at Deutsche Bank, ANZ Grindlays Bank, and Kotak Bank.
Academically, Sarin holds a Bachelor's degree in Planning from the School of Planning & Architecture, Delhi, and a Master's in Finance from the University of Delhi, where he later received a Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Department of Financial Studies. He was a Government of India Merit Scholar at Modern School, Delhi, and holds "grandfatheree" Certified Financial Planner (CFP) status, conferred in 2003 by the Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB) India.
Beyond his firm, Sarin is a Charter Member of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) and an active mentor to early-stage founders, which is the context for his angel activity. He is also the author of the bestselling personal-finance book *Unlocking Wealth: Secrets to Getting Rich at Any Age* (Aleph Book Company), and a frequent commentator in Indian financial media on asset allocation, SIPs, and long-term wealth creation.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests as an individual angel at the seed stage, in India-based startups, typically as one participant in larger syndicated rounds (23+ co-investors in Nivesh; 47+ in Bookeventz).
- Deal activity is low-volume and opportunistic — a handful of angel checks rather than a formal fund — consistent with a "mentor who also invests" profile.
- Sector interests cluster around consumer, real estate / construction tech, and financial services (adjacent to his wealth-management expertise).
- His public investing philosophy, drawn from his firm and writing, emphasizes early and consistent investing, disciplined asset allocation, and staying invested for the long term — "wealth creation begins with early investment."
Notable Investments
- Nivesh — Fintech/investment platform; participated in a Seed round (~US$1.15M) in July 2024.
- Bookeventz — Online marketplace for venue booking and event planning; Seed round (~US$339K), December 2016.
