Background
Roland C. Price is a corporate-finance executive best known as the longtime Vice President & Treasurer of Tufts Health Plan and, after its 2021 merger with Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, of the combined organization Point32Health (from which he is now retired). In that role he had oversight of the organization's investment activity along with broader corporate finance responsibilities, including the treasury function that seeds and manages the health plan's strategic venture investments.
Price joined Tufts Health Plan in 1995. Before that he held corporate-finance positions with companies in the hospitality and building-materials industries. He earned a B.S. in management from Southern New Hampshire University and an M.B.A. in finance from Suffolk University.
In connection with his treasury role, he serves as Treasurer of Tufts Health Ventures (formerly Point32Health Ventures), the health plan's corporate venture capital arm founded in 2008 and based in the Greater Boston area (Watertown/Canton, Massachusetts). The fund makes early-stage investments in U.S. health technology and health-services companies. He has also served as Treasurer of the Tufts Health Plan Foundation since its inception in 2008 (and the successor Point32Health Foundation), and previously as a board member and Treasurer of the Tufts Health Care Institute, a collaboration between the health plan and Tufts University School of Medicine.
Beyond his health-plan work, Price serves as an Advisor for New England with The Trust for Public Land, a national conservation nonprofit, reflecting continued civic and board involvement in retirement.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests as the treasury/finance principal behind Tufts Health Ventures, the corporate venture arm of a large regional health plan — investments are strategic to the payer's mission, not personal angel checks.
- Focus sectors: population health, complex care, behavioral health, home-based care, network and benefits management, and digital health technology / health services.
- Stage: early-stage transactions, spanning seed through Series A/B rounds in U.S.-based companies.
- The strategic lens means the fund tends to say "yes" to companies whose products can plug into a health plan's operations — care navigation, member engagement, and services that improve outcomes or lower cost of care for insured populations.
Notable Investments
- SameSky Health (formerly ConsejoSano) — culturally tailored member engagement / health-navigation platform; Tufts Health Ventures participated in its Series B (Dec 2020); company reported as an exit (April 2024).
- Integra Partners — network management for durable medical equipment, orthotics and prosthetics benefits.
- CareWell Urgent Care — urgent care clinic operator (outpatient services).
- ConsejoSano — Spanish-language and multicultural patient engagement service (later rebranded SameSky Health).
