Background
Ron Ahuja is a private-equity investor who joined RFE Investment Partners as a Principal in 2023 (announced September 19, 2023). At RFE — a lower-middle-market control-investment firm founded in 1980 and based in Connecticut — he leads new platform and add-on acquisition investments and manages portfolio company investments.
Before RFE, Ahuja spent his career in middle-market private equity. He served as a Vice President at Heartwood Partners and, earlier, as a Vice President at First Atlantic Capital, a New York middle-market PE firm founded in 1989. In these roles he was active across the full investment and portfolio-management process and built significant experience in buy-and-build transactions across niche manufacturing, packaging, and business-services companies.
He began his career in consulting, working as a management consultant at Bain & Co. in the firm's Private Equity group and at Monitor Deloitte in Strategy & Operations. On education, Ahuja earned a B.S. in Finance and Economics from NYU's Stern School of Business (where he was a University Honors Scholar) and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in control buyouts and buy-and-build platforms in the U.S. lower/middle market — not early-stage or seed venture deals.
- Sector concentration in niche manufacturing, packaging, and business services.
- Focus on new platform investments plus add-on acquisitions to grow those platforms, and on active portfolio-company management through to exit.
- At RFE, targets established small-market companies where operational and buy-and-build execution can drive value.
- On his fit, RFE's Michael Rubel said: *"Ron's experience and personal style are a great match for RFE's culture and investment approach,"* and Paul Schilpp noted RFE was *"excited to have someone of Ron's caliber join the group as we continue to build our execution expertise."*
