Background
Ron Hochman is an Israeli investment executive whose career spans private equity and bank-led direct investing. He began in professional services as a senior associate at KPMG Advisory, working on corporate finance, valuation, and due diligence, and served as a teaching assistant in business/management at Reichman University (IDC Herzliya) and Bar-Ilan University. He holds a BA from the College of Management (Academic Studies) and an MBA from Tel Aviv University.
For roughly a decade Hochman was a partner at Sky Fund (SKY), one of Israel's larger mid-market private equity firms, founded in 2005 by Zvi (Zvika) Yochman and Nir Dagan. Sky Fund manages more than $800 million across several funds raised largely from institutional investors, and its portfolio has included names such as Lumenis, Israir Airlines, and Hamashbir Agriculture. Hebrew press reports describe Hochman as a nephew of Sky founder Zvi Yochman. He also spent time in the investment division of the former Union Bank of Israel before his most prominent recent role.
Around 2021, Bank Mizrahi-Tefahot CEO Moshe Lari recruited Hochman from Sky Fund to build and lead Mizrahi Tefahot Invest — the bank's real-assets ("real investments") arm. Over roughly five years he built a portfolio reported at ₪1.5–2 billion in assets, spanning dozens of investments and contributing an estimated ₪100–200 million a year to the bank's profits. In February 2026 it was announced that Hochman would step down, to be replaced by Shmarit (Smarit) Kenig, a former partner and COO at the venture-capital fund JVP. Israeli business media reported that Hochman is expected to establish his own investment fund following his departure — meaning his affiliations are in transition as of mid-2026.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Institutional, returns-driven investing rather than early-stage angel bets: Sky Fund's stated aim is "substantial capital appreciation and current income" from middle-market Israeli or Israel-related companies, combining proven management with financial expertise for "attractive high long-term returns, with relatively low risk."
- At Mizrahi Tefahot Invest, focus was on real assets — real estate, infrastructure, and REIT stakes — alongside selective retail and technology deals; he publicly discussed the arm's view on market opportunities and expected returns "for the next few years."
- Willing to take meaningful minority and control positions in established, cash-generative businesses; deals were sized in the tens of millions of shekels.
- Personal interests bridge into deal-sourcing: Hochman has spoken publicly on sports and investments, appearing at the Sports Tech Nation Summit 2021 in Tel Aviv.
Notable Investments
- Care Laser (קר לייזר) — Mizrahi Tefahot invested ~₪40M in the Israeli laser vision-correction / medical clinics company.
- Reuven Ella real-estate company — investment at a reported ~₪750M valuation.
- Tzachi Abu REIT fund — ~₪66M for a 20% stake in the real-estate investment fund.
- Lumenis — minimally-invasive laser/energy-based medical device company.
