Ronald Lauder

Ronald S. Lauder is an American businessman, diplomat, philanthropist, art collector, and investor. He is the younger son of Estée and Joseph Lauder, founders of The Estée Lauder Companies. The Ronald S. Lauder Foundation says he was born on February 26, 1944, attended the Bronx High School of Science, earned a bachelor’s degree in International Business from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, studied at the University of Paris, and received a Certificate in International Business from the University of Brussels.

Lauder joined The Estée Lauder Companies in 1964, starting in the company’s Oevel, Belgium factory. Estée Lauder Companies says he became General Manager of Clinique Laboratories in 1985, has served as Chairman of Clinique since 1994, helped create Prescriptives, and served as Chairman of Estée Lauder International from 1992 to 2002. He also served multiple terms on The Estée Lauder Companies’ board, including 1968-1986, 1988-2009, and 2016-2025.

His public-service career includes serving from 1983 to 1986 as U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Affairs, followed by appointment by President Ronald Reagan as U.S. Ambassador to Austria in 1986. Since 2007, he has served as president of the World Jewish Congress, where the organization says he meets with heads of state, prime ministers, and government representatives on issues affecting Jewish communities worldwide.

As an investor, Lauder appears in public venture databases both individually and through Ronald Lauder Ventures and R&R Venture Partners. CB Insights identifies him as an angel investor based in New York and lists his personal participation in TouchCast’s $55 million Series A in 2021.
