Ryan Shelswell

Ryan Shelswell is a Sydney-based private-capital investor who spent most of his career at Intermediate Capital Group (ICG plc), the FTSE-listed global alternative-asset manager. He joined ICG in 2010 to build out its Australia and New Zealand mezzanine and equity business, and over the following decade rose to Head of Australia & New Zealand and, from mid-2018, Head of Asia Pacific — succeeding the retiring Chris Heine — before serving as Chief Operating Officer of ICG's Asia-Pacific Corporate business. He sat on the ICG Asia-Pacific investment committee from 2014 and on the committees of the last four Asia-Pacific regional and Japan domestic funds.

Before ICG, Shelswell was a Director at Pacific Equity Partners, one of Australia's leading buyout private-equity firms, and earlier worked in management consulting at L.E.K. Consulting. He is credited with establishing ICG's "sponsorless" (owner- and management-led, non-PE-sponsored) deal capability across Asia-Pacific and with leading the firm's expansion into Australian private debt, including the ICG Australia Senior Loan Fund. Under his tenure, colleagues noted, ICG Asia-Pacific evolved "from a Hong Kong-based, fly-in fly-out investor to a truly local investor across the region."

Academically, Shelswell holds an MBA from London Business School (Dean's List) and a BSc from Macquarie University (University Medal). He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

After roughly 12 years, ICG announced that Shelswell had decided to step down from his responsibilities (around 2022–2023). He has since positioned himself on LinkedIn as an Independent Investor & Advisor, and has held board/advisory roles connected to ICG's portfolio and to healthcare businesses.

• Comfortable across the capital structure: senior loans (ICG Australia Senior Loan Fund), subordinated/mezzanine debt, and structured equity — flexible instruments to fund growth, buyouts, or recapitalisations.
• ICG's CEO characterised his edge as "a strong track record in sourcing and executing deals," expanding coverage from sponsor mezzanine into ICG's full strategy set.
• As an independent, appears to focus on advisory and board roles, with notable healthcare/diagnostics exposure.
