Background
Ryan Stratton is a Partner and one of the four co-founders of Tower Arch Capital, a lower-middle-market private equity firm based in the Salt Lake City area (Draper, Utah). He launched the firm alongside David Parkin, David Topham, and Rhett Neuenschwander, a group that came largely out of Utah's established private-equity ecosystem.
Before co-founding Tower Arch, Stratton was a Principal at Huntsman Gay Global Capital, the Utah-based private equity firm co-founded by Jon Huntsman Sr. and Robert Gay. Earlier in his career he worked at Sorenson Capital Partners and at Bain Capital Partners, and he began his professional career in management consulting at Bain & Company. This blend of consulting and buyout experience underpins Tower Arch's hands-on, operationally focused approach to its portfolio companies.
Stratton holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a B.A. in Economics from Brigham Young University. He is an active board member across Tower Arch's portfolio, currently serving as a director of APIC, CCI Network Services, Creedence Energy Services, Enflite, HardRock Infrastructure Services, LifePort, Nexeo HR Solutions, Syracuse Utilities, and TD&I. He is a former director of Corbett Technology Solutions (CTSI), Enertech Resources, Future Infrastructure, and KNS International — several of which Tower Arch has since exited.
Tower Arch describes itself as a "founder-friendly" firm and has been named to Inc. Magazine's Top 50 Founder-Friendly Private Equity Firms list for multiple consecutive years, as well as appearing on Top 50 Middle-Market PE lists.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in control positions in high-quality, profitable, family- and entrepreneur-owned businesses — this is buyout-stage private equity, not angel or seed investing.
- Targets platform companies with ~$5M–$30M of EBITDA and roughly $20M–$150M of revenue, plus smaller bolt-on/add-on acquisitions for existing platforms.
- Sector-agnostic but with demonstrated concentration in business & industrial services, specialty manufacturing, telecom/infrastructure services, energy services, aerospace/defense, and IT/cybersecurity services.
- Emphasizes alignment with management: Tower Arch states it is "the largest investor in our funds" and structures ownership/incentive packages for key employees. Firm tagline: *"Creating value for owners, and their employees."*
- Positions itself as a founder-friendly partner that helps owners professionalize and grow their businesses rather than simply financially engineer them.
