Background

Sacha Labourey is a Swiss software entrepreneur best known as the co-founder and former CEO of CloudBees, the enterprise software delivery company built around Jenkins, CI/CD, DevOps, and later governed AI software delivery. CloudBees says it was founded in 2010 by former JBoss CTO Sacha Labourey and other continuous integration, continuous delivery, and DevOps professionals.

Before CloudBees, Labourey was deeply involved in JBoss. Forbes Councils states that he was a core contributor to Marc Fleury’s JBoss open-source project, implemented its original clustering features, established JBoss’s European headquarters in 2003, and served as general manager for Europe and then CTO. After Red Hat acquired JBoss in 2006, he became general manager of Red Hat’s middleware division. He left Red Hat in April 2009, according to EPFL event materials.

At CloudBees, Labourey served as CEO for the company’s first 11 years. In February 2021, CloudBees appointed Stephen DeWitt CEO, and Labourey moved to chief strategy officer, remaining on the board and focusing on corporate strategy, product direction, and strategic alliances. In December 2021, Labourey wrote that CloudBees had raised $150 million, reached a $1 billion valuation, and had more than 500 employees in 24 countries.

On February 4, 2025, CloudBees announced that Labourey would step down from day-to-day operations as chief strategy officer after 15 years, while remaining an active advisor and board member. His education includes a Master of Science from EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Labourey appears to invest where he can add operating leverage from open source, developer tools, DevOps, engineering productivity, and enterprise software scale-up experience.
  • His clearest pattern is founder/operator angel investing: GiveSignup cited him as CloudBees founder and former CEO and said he would advise on development processes and infrastructure; Droople described him as a lead advisor and investor.
  • He favors companies with strong technical product velocity. In GiveSignup’s Series A announcement, he said he was impressed by how RunSignup | GiveSignup used continuous development to release thousands of platform updates per year.
  • In Droople’s CHF1.5 million seed announcement, Labourey said he had been “on the front row” since inception, watching the company move from idea to product-market fit to first commercial wins, suggesting a preference for hands-on, early-stage support.
  • His CloudBees writing emphasizes a durable product worldview: “to empower developers to make an impact by streamlining the path from idea to production.” That theme maps closely to his investments in Launchable, CloudBees, and developer-infrastructure companies.
  • Public sources do not disclose a standard check size.
