Background
Sachin Tagra is a Managing Partner at JSW Ventures, the early-stage venture capital arm of the JSW Group, a role he stepped into in December 2022 after joining the firm as a Partner. He brings more than 25 years of combined operating and investing experience across consumer, retail, media, and technology businesses, and has been an active startup investor since 2014.
Before JSW Ventures, Tagra led Capital18, the media and venture investment division of the Network18 Group, and earlier established the early-stage investment model of Brand Capital at the Times Group. His operating background predates his investing career: he managed P&Ls for large businesses including Reliance Retail, the Times Group, and The Friedman Group (US), working across everything from the startup phase to scaled operations.
Tagra is also an entrepreneur — he was Co-Founder and Board Director of GetVantage, India's first revenue-based financing platform for e-commerce businesses, a stake he has since exited. He currently sits on the boards of several listed and unlisted technology startups, including Homesfy, Cureskin, Zvolv, HealthPlix, and Growcoms.
On education, Tagra holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management and a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Delhi University.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests at the earliest institutional stages — pre-seed through Series A — typically writing checks of roughly $2M–$3M per company, with capacity to follow on into later rounds.
- Thesis is anchored in India's structural tailwinds: a demographic dividend, rising consumption, and deepening digital penetration as drivers of category-defining companies.
- Sector-agnostic within technology, but with active themes in ConsumerTech, HealthTech, EnterpriseTech/SaaS, FinTech, AgriTech, and — increasingly — sustainability and clean energy.
- JSW Ventures pitches itself on a "partner selectively, support strongly, strive for lasting success" philosophy: a concentrated portfolio with hands-on board involvement and access to the broader JSW Group's networks and resources.
- As an operator-turned-investor, Tagra brings a P&L and scaling lens (Reliance Retail, Times Group) to founder conversations, valuing execution and unit economics alongside vision.
