Sam Foster

Sam Foster is the founder and Managing Partner of Pennant Equity Partners, a Marblehead, Massachusetts firm he launched in 2009 that blends principal investing with hands-on operational leadership. Rather than acting as a purely financial sponsor, Pennant partners directly with founder-led, lower-middle-market companies — investing capital while also working alongside management on strategy, sales, product, people, and process, usually engaging three to five years ahead of an intended exit. The firm operates as an independent sponsor, leading or co-investing alongside private equity funds, family offices, and other investors.

Foster brings 25+ years of investing and operating experience across medical, technology, and manufacturing companies. His venture capital career includes co-founding and serving as Managing Director of Velocity Equity Partners, an early-stage VC firm, and co-founding Corning Technology Ventures (Corning Capital Ventures), where he was a General Partner from roughly 1997 to 2001, focusing on disruptive technologies at the intersection of traditional industries and high tech. He is also a founding partner of Healthcare Innovation Partners, a healthcare and medical-products accelerator.

Unusually for an investor, Foster has repeatedly stepped into operating roles at portfolio and other companies. He has served as CEO of AliMed (a middle-market manufacturer and distributor of medical products), CEO of Sonexis (an early SaaS teleconferencing innovator), COO of Deerpath Energy (distributed renewable energy), and COO of Valvcon (a start-up industrial controls company). He also serves on the board of BAMSI (Brockton Area Multi-Services, Inc.), a Massachusetts human-services nonprofit.

Most recently, in April 2026, Pennant Equity Partners acquired SurePeople, Inc. — a behavioral-intelligence platform built around its proprietary Prism® model — and Foster assumed the role of CEO of the renamed SurePeople Technologies, Inc., illustrating the firm's model of pairing investment with direct operating leadership.
