Background
Sameer Wagle is the Managing Director of the Asian Healthcare Fund, a New Delhi–based, healthcare-focused investment platform (2013 vintage, roughly $100M AUM) where he leads early-growth-stage investing across the healthcare value chain — running the full cycle from deal sourcing and execution to portfolio management and exit planning. He brings 26+ years of investing and operating experience, of which more than 20 years are in private equity and venture capital across Indian and international platforms.
Before AHF, Wagle was an Executive Director at Nomura Securities, where he headed the India team for the firm's Private Equity division. Earlier in his career he was a Partner at IL&FS Investment Managers, spent five-plus years in Singapore's VC scene (primarily with Vertex Management, part of the Singapore Technologies / Temasek group), and was part of the early team at GVFL Limited, one of India's first venture capital firms. His pre-VC operating roles were at Crompton Greaves and DGP Windsor, giving him hands-on industry experience alongside his financial background.
Wagle trained as an Electrical Engineer at the University of Pune, earned an MBA from the SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (Mumbai), and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) from the CFA Institute (US). He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Public Policy from the Takshashila Institution.
Beyond his fund, Wagle is active in the broader ecosystem: he mentors at SPJIMR's WISE Tech acceleration program, is a partner at Social Venture Partners (SVP) India, has served on the Investment Committee of Aavishkaar (India's first social venture capital firm), and is associated with the Takshashila Institution, an independent public-policy think tank. He invests as an angel through IAN Group's BioAngels healthcare network and sits on the board of portfolio company Forus Health.
