Background

Schwark Satyavolu is a serial fintech entrepreneur, inventor (holder of roughly 15 patents), and venture investor based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He began his career at Microsoft, where work on Microsoft Project and an interest in web portals and data-summarization tools led him to co-found the financial data-aggregation platform Yodlee in 1999. He spent about eight years at Yodlee, building its core technology and serving in multiple roles including chief technology officer. Yodlee went public and was later acquired by Envestnet in 2015. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras and an M.S. in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and was briefly an entrepreneur-in-residence at Bessemer Venture Partners.

After Yodlee, Satyavolu co-founded Truaxis, a personalized rewards/offers fintech company that was acquired by Mastercard in 2012. Following that acquisition he became Global Head of Rewards and Offers at Mastercard, running a roughly $200 million division. He subsequently served as an Executive Vice President at LifeLock, the identity-theft protection company that was acquired by Symantec.

In 2016, Satyavolu joined Trinity Ventures as a General Partner, leading early-stage investments at the intersection of fintech, security, and artificial intelligence — areas drawn directly from his operating background. He is currently listed on Trinity's site as a Venture Partner. He has also written for outlets including TechCrunch and VentureBeat and speaks on entrepreneurship and fintech.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests at the early (seed / Series A) stage in fintech, security, and AI startups.
  • Particular interest in companies that enable the broader financial services ecosystem — payments, data, fraud/risk, and consumer financial wellness — reflecting his Yodlee, Truaxis, and Mastercard operating roots.
  • Backs technical, founder-led teams; as an inventor with ~15 patents and a former CTO, he gravitates toward deep-technology and data/ML-driven businesses.
  • Open to emerging-markets fintech where technology modernizes financial access (e.g., Branch International's lending in emerging markets).
  • Brings hands-on operating and scaling experience (built two companies to acquisition, ran a $200M division), positioning himself as a builder-investor rather than a purely financial backer.

Notable Investments

  • Weights & Biases (W&B) — AI/ML developer platform; acquired by CoreWeave in 2025 (reported ~$1.7B).
  • Branch (Branch International) — Mobile lending/financial services modernizing finance in emerging markets.

  • Baton Systems — Post-trade processing and settlement infrastructure for financial institutions.
  • Brightside — Financial wellness / employee financial health platform.
  • Squire — Booking and business-management software for barbershops.
