Background
Scott Robert Lancaster, MD, MBA is a physician-investor and board-certified diagnostic radiologist. Marram Ventures describes him as a radiologist and venture investor with multiple exits, with operating experience across practice management, corporate leadership, contract negotiation, and healthcare real estate.
Before Marram, Lancaster was co-lead and clinical director of Spectrum Health Ventures, described by Riverine Ventures as the $100 million venture arm of Spectrum Health System. In that role, he led or helped lead investments including Arivale, Gauss Surgical, Ciitizen, and Vynca. Spectrum Health / Corewell Health’s 2018 Gauss announcement identified him as clinical director of Spectrum Health Ventures and quoted him on the firm’s clinical due-diligence process.
Lancaster later served as Chief Investment Officer and Managing Director for The 4100 Group’s healthcare investment vehicle, 4100HH. The 4100 Group’s team page states that he led 4100HH’s mission to transform health and wellness and lists board roles with Sensory Cloud, Root Functional Medicine, Dyntl, Joyn Health, Orbita, and Sana. In June 2026, Marram Ventures launched as a standalone healthcare VC firm following the transition of Arcis Fund I and related investment activities from The 4100 Group.
His education includes an MBA from the University of Michigan, a musculoskeletal imaging fellowship at the University of Michigan, a diagnostic radiology residency at Henry Ford Hospital, an MD from Michigan State University, and a BS in Microbiology from the University of Michigan.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Marram Ventures’ core thesis: “Every system in the body talks to every other. Most of healthcare still doesn’t.” The firm backs companies connecting whole-person health to long-term outcomes and investment returns.
- Marram frames the thesis around “Care Convergence”: treating physical, mental, and oral health as one connected system rather than separate silos.
- Stage focus is Seed through Series B, with $1 million to $3 million checks according to Marram’s June 30, 2026 launch release.
- Sector focus is organized into three buckets: convergent care delivery, diagnostics and devices, and connective infrastructure.
- Lancaster appears to favor companies where clinical value and operating adoption can reinforce each other. In the Gauss Surgical investment announcement, he said Spectrum Health Ventures’ process included “due diligence undertaken with our stakeholders and clinical experts.”
- His background suggests a strong fit for founders selling into health systems, providers, payers, employer benefits, medical technology, diagnostics, or care infrastructure where clinical workflow, economics, and measurable outcomes matter.
