Background

Scott McCorkle is a longtime marketing-technology executive turned founder and angel investor based in Indianapolis. He earned an MBA from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business in 1995. Early in his career he worked at BorgWarner Automotive's Technology Research Center, developing computer-vision-guided robotic systems, and then spent several years at Eli Lilly and Company's Lilly Research Laboratories. He went on to hold leadership roles at Software Artistry, IBM (Vice President of its CRM product group), and co-founded Mezzia, Inc.

McCorkle is best known for his tenure at Indianapolis-based ExactTarget, where he served as President of Technology and Strategy. Salesforce acquired ExactTarget in 2013 for roughly $2.5 billion, and McCorkle subsequently became CEO of Salesforce Marketing Cloud, running it for about three years after ExactTarget founder Scott Dorsey stepped back. In total he spent roughly 11 years across ExactTarget and Salesforce, helping build one of the world's leading cross-channel digital marketing platforms.

In January 2018 he founded MetaCX, an Indianapolis enterprise-software startup focused on customer success and inter-company (buyer/supplier) collaboration. The company raised more than $30M — including a $14M stealth round backed by High Alpha and others, a $5.1M angel round from a group of 14 angel investors, and additional financings — and has since rebranded as Metaimpact, a platform that helps organizations "align on goals, activate networks, and measure what matters." He remains Founder and CEO.

Alongside his operating career, McCorkle invests personally as an angel, concentrating on early-stage B2B software companies, many of them in the Indianapolis/Midwest ecosystem where he is a prominent figure.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests as an individual angel, primarily at seed / early stage (with at least one Series A participation).
  • Focus on enterprise applications and B2B SaaS, plus adjacent consumer software — areas mirroring his own operating expertise in marketing and customer-success technology.
  • Strong preference for the Indianapolis / Midwest startup ecosystem, often co-investing alongside local and strategic funds (e.g., Elevate Ventures, Stout Street Capital, Salesforce Ventures, High Alpha).
  • Backs founders in categories he knows firsthand — marketing/customer-success tooling, community and network platforms, and enterprise workflow software.

Notable Investments

  • Stensul — Enterprise email-creation software; participated in a ~$7M Series A (2018), alongside Javelin, Arthur Ventures, and First Round Capital.
  • Torchlite — Freelance-marketing marketplace/platform; ~$3M seed (2018), with Salesforce Ventures also investing.
  • Powderkeg — Tech-community and talent platform connecting startups outside Silicon Valley; ~$900K seed (2019), with Stout Street Capital and Elevate Ventures.
  • MomentPath — Child-care management software; ~$1M seed (2018); company was acquired in October 2022.
