Background

Scott Schulte is the founder and founding partner of MFS Capital Advisors, a New York boutique investment bank he launched in 2012 and rebranded as Podium Partners in May 2024. He brings more than 35 years of experience in financial services, and the firm reports that over his career he has managed over $100 million and raised more than $550 million in capital and equity funds. The firm helps clients access private capital markets for both debt and equity, and provides M&A advisory, growth-capital raising, and consulting services to lower-middle-market and founder-owned companies.

Before founding MFS Capital Advisors, Schulte held a series of senior roles across brokerage and venture-focused firms. He served as Vice President of Sales at both Morgan Stanley and Prudential Securities, as a Managing Director at Spencer Trask Ventures, and as CEO of Concord Equity Partners. Aggregator listings also associate him with Managing Director roles at Axiom Capital. His personal thesis is captured in his own words on the firm's team page: "It's all about relationships."

The Podium Partners rebrand leans heavily on a team identity built around former elite athletes — several colleagues have competitive water-polo backgrounds — with the "podium" metaphor meant to signal discipline, focus, and achievement applied to boutique investment banking. Under that banner the firm continues to focus on M&A advisory for lower-middle-market companies (roughly $2M–$10M EBITDA) and on connecting clients with strategic, value-added capital.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Operates as a capital advisor/placement agent more than a check-writing angel: Podium/MFS "proactively sources value-added investors who provide strategic capital" and emphasizes "invaluable synergies and mutually beneficial partnerships."
  • Targets founder- and family-owned businesses with revenue of ~$5M–$100M and EBITDA of ~$2M+, ideally with experienced management and a differentiated offering in a fragmented industry.
  • Services span three lines: Merger & Acquisitions (full sell-side process), Growth Capital (connecting clients with HNW individuals, PE firms, family offices, and institutions focused on the lower middle market), and Consulting (growth strategy and financial planning).
  • Sector-agnostic in practice, with realized deals across manufacturing, logistics, business services, software/technology, healthcare, PropTech, EdTech, consumer products, and fitness.
  • Guiding principle, in his own words: "It's all about relationships."
