Scott Steimer

Scott Steimer is a Vice President at Energy Capital Partners (ECP), an American investment firm founded in 2005 and headquartered in Summit, New Jersey, that invests across energy-transition, electrification, and decarbonization infrastructure. ECP has raised more than $37 billion in capital commitments since inception, most recently closing its fifth flagship strategy (ECP V) at $6.7 billion in May 2024. Within the firm, Steimer's work is focused primarily on originating and executing investments in the power generation and renewable energy sectors across North America.

Steimer joined ECP in 2015. Before that, he was an Associate in the Power & Utilities Investment Banking Group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he advised on energy and power transactions; earlier in his career he worked in equity research covering power and utilities. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Finance and Accounting) from Ithaca College.

As a deal professional, Steimer takes board seats at ECP portfolio companies. He currently serves (or has served) on the boards of Heartland Generation, Pivot Energy, and New Leaf Energy, and previously served on the board of Sunnova Energy Corp. His public commentary — including an appearance on New Project Media's "NPM Interconnections" podcast — has centered on ECP's renewable energy platform, the build-out of community solar in Western U.S. markets, and the firm's expansion into new geographies.

It is worth restating that Steimer operates inside an institutional control-buyout firm, not an angel or seed-stage vehicle. A founder treating him as a pre-seed/seed angel check would be mismatched with how he and ECP actually deploy capital.
