Background
Scott Walker is a serial technology entrepreneur turned crypto investor and a co-founder of DNA Fund alongside Brock Pierce. He began his tech career in 1995, founding NetPage Communications, an early web-hosting company that he sold in 1997 to NetGuard Technologies. In 1999 he was co-founder and President of content.ad, described as a $50M+ "native advertising" agency, and in 2004 he was founder and CEO of mobile gaming company Atrinsic, which he grew to roughly $100M in revenue and 250 employees, raised about $30M, and took public.
In early 2012 Walker moved into blockchain, investing in a Bitcoin mining operation with longtime partner Brock Pierce. The two went on to play foundational roles in the early crypto industry — they are credited as early bitcoin miners and creators of the world's first ICO (Mastercoin, launched July 31, 2013) and an early security token, and were large participants in the Ethereum crowdsale. Walker is also a founding limited partner in Blockchain Capital, which gave him early exposure to companies such as Coinbase and Kraken.
In 2017, Walker and Pierce launched DNA, positioning it as a hub of capital and talent for the crypto sector, providing investment and advisory support to blockchain projects globally. Walker is additionally a co-founder of CasperLabs (the company behind the Casper proof-of-stake blockchain) and of tea, inc., and serves as a General Partner at the A195 Fund. He reports having invested in or advised 50+ blockchain projects over his career.
In October 2024, DNA Fund acquired Coral Capital Holdings, expanding its assets under management to over $50 million and broadening its mandate across Web3, AI and emerging technology. Coral's CIO Thomas L. McLaughlin stayed on to manage the funds, and DNA signaled plans for new verticals including a Bitcoin & Ether yield fund and more speculative funds focused on AI, microcaps and memecoins.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests at the earliest stages — historically early-stage token sales/ICOs and early equity in crypto and Web3 companies; the stub data lists seed-round focus.
- Core sectors: Web3, blockchain infrastructure, digital assets, DeFi, and increasingly AI and other emerging tech (per the post-Coral Capital strategy).
- Backs both protocols and platform-level plays — DNA and its founders have founded or invested in foundational infrastructure (e.g., Tether, EOS, Hedera Hashgraph) rather than only applications.
- Track record-driven: DNA markets Walker as "a key figure in early crypto adoption and one of the most successful investors in the history of the space," emphasizing deep network access and being early to category-defining projects.
- Newer vehicles span the risk spectrum — from a planned Bitcoin & Ether yield fund to "more speculative funds focused on AI, memecoins and microcaps."
