Background
Sebastián Miralles Acuña is the Founder and Managing Partner of Tempest Capital, a mid-market private equity and financial advisory firm headquartered in Mexico City and focused on value-oriented investing across Mexico and Latin America. Across his career he reports having participated in 57 transactions totaling roughly US$4.0 billion.
Before founding Tempest, Miralles was Managing Director of the Venture Capital and Mezzanine division at Fondo de Fondos, one of Mexico's largest institutional fund-of-funds investors, where he led LP fund commitments as well as direct equity and mezzanine deals. Earlier, he served as a Principal helping coordinate the private equity team at CAF (Development Bank of Latin America / Corporación Andina de Fomento). Earlier in his career he worked with the Global Value Equity team at Morgan Stanley and as a senior consultant in the Financial Services Group at Kroll.
He has been involved in notable regional and international initiatives, including work connected to Saudi Arabia's Jada Fund of Funds and the early growth of Clip, described as one of Mexico's largest fintechs. He is a frequent commentator on Mexico's nearshoring opportunity and private-equity landscape, appearing in outlets and forums such as MOI Global, CFA Society New York, CGTN, and various Spanish-language finance podcasts.
Miralles holds an MBA from IESE Business School and a BA from Universidad Panamericana, and he is both a CFA and CAIA charterholder.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in lower-mid-market Latin American companies centered on Mexico, pursuing control and growth positions rather than early angel checks.
- Espouses an "active value investing" philosophy emphasizing "true value creation" through "directed, disciplined, resilient, ethical action" rather than financial engineering.
- Built around Mexico's nearshoring thesis — he has publicly argued that Mexico offers over US$400 billion in investment opportunities over the coming decade in sectors like manufacturing services, aerospace, medical devices, telecom, cold-chain, and retail.
- Sector breadth spans industrials, fintech, healthcare, infrastructure, renewable energy, telecommunications, real estate, oil & gas, automotive, and agriculture.
- Values discipline and fundamentals-driven underwriting, drawing on a global value-equity background (Morgan Stanley) and institutional LP/direct experience (Fondo de Fondos, CAF).
Notable Investments
- Clip — leading Mexican fintech / payments company; Miralles is associated with its early growth.
- Valaris — offshore drilling / energy services company (listed among Tempest transactions).
- SIPYT — company featured on Tempest Capital's transactions page.
- Jada Fund of Funds (Saudi Arabia) — participation in the launch/structuring of Saudi Arabia's fund-of-funds program.
