Background
Sébastien Descarpentries is a long-tenured Auriga Partners executive. Auriga’s team page says he joined the firm in 1999 and is Chairman of the Board/Executive Board, responsible for managing the firm’s generalist funds and some SPVs. He is also involved in deal-financing structuring and the implementation of new investment funds.
Auriga Partners was founded in 1998 by Jacques Chatain, Patrick Bamas, and Bernard Daugeras and describes itself as a pioneer of venture capital in France and Europe. The firm reports €315 million in assets under management, more than 120 financed companies, and 50 trade sales and IPOs. Its historical Auriga I-IV funds, established between 1999 and 2013, backed more than 100 companies in IT and life sciences.
Descarpentries is a graduate of the Institut Supérieur de Gestion and holds the D.E.C.F. Public filings and company data list him as Président du directoire of Auriga Partners since January 2013. Scientipôle Capital also lists him as Chairman and Managing Partner at Auriga Partners; Auriga has managed Scientipôle Capital since January 2021.
His work appears particularly tied to fund management, financial structuring, and specialist vehicles. In a 2019 VitaDX financing announcement, he was quoted as Directeur Général of Auriga Partners and board member of VitaDX, explaining Auriga’s continued support for the company after operational milestones in bladder-cancer diagnostics.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Auriga’s stated model is “Leveraging collective intelligence to support entrepreneurs,” with the firm emphasizing thematic ecosystems and specialist expertise rather than purely generalist capital.
- The firm invests in start-ups and listed or unlisted small-mid cap companies, mainly in Europe, and says its first filter is backing projects “driven by innovation and sustainability.”
- Historical Auriga funds focused on IT and life sciences, supporting entrepreneurs over the long term from early financing through exit.
- Current sector funds include Side Invest, a 2026 seed fund in tech and digital; Auriga Cyber Ventures II, a 2026 fund investing from seed to Series A/B; Auriga Cyber Ventures, a cybersecurity and digital-trust seed fund created in 2021; and Luxury Tech Fund/Cuir Invest, early-stage funds around lifestyle transformation.
- Auriga Cyber Ventures states: “We back early-stage European founders in cybersecurity and digital trust. Nothing else.”
- Auriga’s opportunity funds use SPVs or secondary funds, primarily for growth companies, when the firm’s sector networks and early-stage ecosystems create shorter-term investment opportunities.
