Background
Serge Krancenblum was born on 8 October 1961 in Metz, France. He graduated in 1984 from the École Supérieure Libre des Sciences Commerciales Appliquées (ESLSCA) and studied at the University of Connecticut. He began his career in Luxembourg's financial sector with roles at Arthur Andersen Luxembourg and at KBL (now Quintet Private Bank) from around 1985.
In July 1993 he became president/CEO of Services Généraux de Gestion (SGG), a Luxembourg financial-services and corporate-administration firm. Over the following decades he built and consolidated the business — through a series of acquisitions including the $90 million purchase of Mauritius-based CIM Global Business in 2017 — into what became the world's fourth-largest independent investor services group. In March 2019 SGG rebranded as IQ-EQ, and Krancenblum stepped from Group CEO into the role of Group Executive Chairman, chairing the Supervisory Board while Mark Pesco took over as CEO. As co-founder and chairman he focuses on the group's M&A strategy and its corporate social responsibility agenda, and acts as an adviser and mentor to leadership.
Beyond IQ-EQ, Krancenblum is an active entrepreneur and investor. In April 2014 he invested in and became chairman of Gatsby & White, an independent cross-border insurance-brokerage/wealth-solutions platform he co-founded (acquired by Firstance/Nextalia in December 2023). He is a strategic partner in La Maison Partners, an investment holding founded by Michel Cicurel, and serves as an independent director on the boards of several real estate and private equity funds. Earlier, in 2003, he acquired the luxury footwear brand Charles Jourdan (later sold in 2008).
He is deeply embedded in Luxembourg's finance community: President (2015–2022) and now Honorary President of the Luxembourg Association of Family Offices (LAFO), and President of the Luxembourg Association of Alternative Administrators (L3A). In February 2018 he was appointed Conseiller du commerce extérieur de la France for Luxembourg, and in October 2018 he was voted "European Personality of the Year" at the Funds Europe Awards. He is French-born, reportedly holds Monégasque nationality, and is married with two daughters.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Operates primarily as a strategic/growth investor and industry consolidator rather than a classic seed-stage angel; his capital tends to back businesses in his own domains of expertise — fund services, family offices, insurance and wealth structuring.
- Track record built on M&A and scale: as SGG/IQ-EQ leader he drove roll-up acquisitions (e.g., CIM Global Business, Mauritius, $90M in 2017) to build the "fourth-largest independent investor services group."
- Backs founder-led financial platforms where he can add operational and network value — e.g., co-founding and chairing Gatsby & White in the cross-border insurance space.
- Aligned with Luxembourg's positioning as a global investment hub; a frequent advocate for the jurisdiction's fund and family-office ecosystem (LAFO, L3A leadership).
Notable Investments
- Gatsby & White — Co-founder (with Juan Lozano and Benno Vegers) and chairman of this cross-border insurance-brokerage/wealth-solutions platform; invested April 2014; sold to Firstance (Nextalia) in December 2023.
- La Maison Partners — Strategic partner in the investment holding founded by Michel Cicurel.
- CIM Global Business (Mauritius) — Led the ~$90M acquisition in March 2017 as part of the SGG/IQ-EQ build-out.
- Charles Jourdan — Acquired the luxury shoe brand in 2003; the business later struggled and was sold in 2008.
- IQ-EQ (formerly SGG Group) — Co-founder and long-time CEO; the platform itself is the central vehicle of his career, grown via serial acquisitions.
