Background
Shai Deljo is a serial technology entrepreneur and operator turned angel investor, best known for co-founding VideoSurf, an AI/computer-vision video search and discovery company founded in 2006. He served as VideoSurf's COO and co-founder, building visual-recognition technology that let users search *inside* video. Microsoft acquired VideoSurf in November 2011 (reported at roughly $70M), folding the technology into its Xbox/Bing video efforts. Following the acquisition, Deljo joined Microsoft as a Principal Program Manager Lead on Xbox.
Before VideoSurf, Deljo built products at two major internet companies. He worked at Farechase (a travel-search startup acquired by Yahoo), and then at Yahoo!, where he held principal/technical-operations roles including work on Yahoo Answers. He earned a B.Sc. from Bar-Ilan University in Israel (early 1990s), and his career and investing straddle the U.S. and Israeli startup ecosystems.
Around 2012 he founded and led Social Studios, a company that transformed web content into promotional/social video; it raised a ~$700K seed round in March 2012 and was acquired by Vocativ in January 2015. Since 2016, Deljo has been Co-founder and CEO of Beehive AI, a San Francisco–based "qualitative intelligence" / GenAI platform that turns open-ended customer and survey data into structured, predictive insights (churn risk, satisfaction, product adoption). He co-founded Beehive AI alongside CTO Moshi Delgo.
Alongside his operating roles, Deljo has been active as an angel investor and startup advisor, backing early-stage software companies in the U.S. and Israel.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests as an angel primarily at seed and Series A, writing typical individual angel-sized checks (public sources do not disclose an exact check size).
- Sector focus: SaaS, internet/consumer, AI and machine learning, video and TV/content, and enterprise software — closely mirroring the domains he has built in (video search, social/content, GenAI analytics).
- Geography: Concentrated on U.S. and Israeli startups, reflecting his cross-border background.
- Leans toward technology companies building enterprise and AI-driven products, where his operating experience (computer vision, video, data/analytics) is directly relevant.
- Value-add is operator-to-founder: two exits (VideoSurf → Microsoft, Social Studios → Vocativ) plus current experience running an AI SaaS company.
Notable Investments
- Globality — B2B/AI-driven sourcing and procurement platform; Deljo participated in its Series A (~$10M round, September 2015).
- Social Studios — Content-to-video startup he founded/led and also backed at seed (~$700K, March 2012); acquired by Vocativ in January 2015 (counted as an exit).
- VideoSurf — AI video-search company he co-founded (COO); acquired by Microsoft in 2011 — his headline track-record outcome rather than a passive angel check.
