Background

Shaunt Kalloghlian was a Canadian finance and operating executive associated with Solon Capital Partners, an impact-oriented investment firm founded in Freetown, Sierra Leone in 2010. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario on June 15, 1985, spent much of his childhood and adolescence in Saudi Arabia, and graduated from the Richard Ivey School of Business as HBA ’07.

He began his finance career in investment banking. A 2007 Canadian capital-markets industry note reported that Kalloghlian, then an Investment Banking Analyst at Bank of America Securities in Toronto, had left to join Merrill Lynch.

Kalloghlian later joined Solon Capital Partners. Ivey Business School’s 2023 profile of Solon co-founders David Dobrowolski and John Stelzer says the Solon team was later joined by Arthur Rojas and Shaunt Kalloghlian, HBA ’07, and that Kalloghlian spent nearly 10 years with the company. His obituary states that for more than a decade he worked on building businesses that strengthened communities across West Africa, including an instrumental role in founding Rising Academies.

In later public materials he appears as President of Norvesta, a vertically integrated Ontario single-family rental company managing more than 370 rental homes. He died on July 13, 2026, at age 41.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Solon’s model is not a conventional seed-stage angel strategy. The firm describes itself as creating, partnering, and investing to deliver both financial returns and transformative impact.
  • Solon emphasizes patient capital and long holding periods: its investment page says it may continue to hold investments “for as long as they contribute to portfolio value creation.”
  • The firm focuses on hands-on business creation and partnership with social entrepreneurs rather than passive minority investing.
  • Target markets are operationally complex, especially West Africa and the Global South; Solon says being headquartered in West Africa keeps it close to portfolio companies, opportunities, communities, and political and social developments.
  • Thematic focus is “Climate & Community,” with three stated verticals: Nature-Based Solutions, Education & Sport, and Sustainable Communities.
  • No verified public source was found for Shaunt Kalloghlian’s personal check size, independent angel-investing activity, or individual seed-stage mandate.
