Background
Sherif Guirgis is a Los Angeles–based investor with more than a decade of private equity experience concentrated in the consumer sector. He began his finance career as an Investment Banking Analyst at Credit Suisse (June 2009–June 2011), then moved into private equity as an Associate at Apollo Global Management (July 2011–June 2014), where he focused on retail and consumer investments. He holds an Honors Business Administration (HBA) degree from the Ivey Business School at Western University in Canada (2007–2009).
In June 2014 he joined Lion Capital, the UK-based consumer-focused private equity firm (roughly $6B in assets under management, known for investments in consumer brands), where he was a Partner until October 2021. He then served as Managing Director at Main Street Advisors — a Los Angeles asset manager known for managing capital on behalf of athletes, entertainers, and other high-profile individuals — from October 2021 to March 2024.
Since 2024, Guirgis has shifted toward operating and founding roles alongside his investing. In September 2024 he partnered with founder Cassandra Grey to buy the luxury beauty retailer Violet Grey back from Farfetch, and he now serves as its Chairman, CEO, and co-owner. He is also a Partner and Advisor at 888 Midas Partners (an LA-based investment group whose partners include Lew Wolff, John Terzian of The h.wood Group, and Ross Walker of Hawkins Way Capital) and the founder of Vaulted, a fintech platform in the digital-asset space. He was recognized alongside Cassandra Grey on the Glossy 50 list in 2025.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests primarily in consumer businesses — beauty, retail, e-commerce, fashion, lifestyle, food & beverage, travel, and increasingly consumer fintech — reflecting 13+ years of consumer PE experience.
- As an angel/individual investor, backs seed and early-stage companies; as a professional, has operated at the growth-equity and buyout end (Apollo, Lion Capital).
- Looks for the ability to "infuse the business with talent and capital and vision" — his stated rationale for the Violet Grey buyback — signaling a hands-on, operator-investor approach rather than passive capital.
- Aggregators list a broad consumer-tech interest set including e-commerce, mobile apps, price comparison, travel, fintech/trading platforms, health, marketing, eyewear, jewelry, and food processing.
Notable Investments
- Violet Grey — Luxury beauty/curation retailer; co-led its buyback from Farfetch (Sept. 16, 2024) and became Chairman & CEO; company had raised ~$31.6M in total funding prior.
