Background
Simon Justin Nixon is a British entrepreneur best known as the co-founder of MoneySuperMarket.com. UK Companies House records list him as a former director of MONY Group plc, appointed on 12 April 2007 and resigned on 31 December 2015, with British nationality and Jersey listed as country of residence in later filings.
Nixon studied accounting and finance at the University of Nottingham but left before completing the degree. He began in mortgages and, with Duncan Cameron, founded Mortgage 2000 in 1993 to provide mortgage-product information to advisers. The business later moved online as MoneySuperMarket.com in 1999 and expanded from mortgage comparison into credit cards, loans, insurance, energy, and travel comparison.
MoneySuperMarket listed in London in 2007. Nixon served as CEO until 2008, later becoming deputy chairman and then non-executive deputy chairman. He stepped down from the board at the end of 2015 and sold his remaining 6.9% stake in March 2016 for £124 million, bringing proceeds from share sales over several years to more than £700 million according to The Guardian.
Since leaving MoneySuperMarket, Nixon has invested personally and through his family office, described in coverage as Seek Capital or Seek Ventures. Bloomberg/WealthManagement.com reported in 2021 that his London-based family office managed more than $1 billion of personal assets in technology and was increasing its allocation to crypto.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Nixon’s strongest pattern is backing marketplace and fintech models where his MoneySuperMarket experience is directly relevant: comparison, customer acquisition, financial-products distribution, and consumer trust.
- In ComparaOnline, he said the attraction was that it was the “leading insurance and financial comparison platform” in a high-growth Latin American market, with proprietary technology and expansion in Brazil and Colombia.
- His own entrepreneurship framework emphasizes starting from a real unmet need: “Do I need something? Do other people need it too?” He applied that logic to MoneySuperMarket and later travel businesses.
- Seek Capital’s crypto focus is explicitly future-oriented. Adam Proctor said the family office wanted to increase its “allocation to crypto” because it was “an important area for the future.”
- Public deals show comfort investing alongside strong venture syndicates rather than always leading: co-investors include Gauss Ventures, Felix Capital, Octopus Ventures, Index Ventures, NFX, Shasta Ventures, Y Combinator, and high-profile angels.
