Simone Song

Simone Song is the founder and Senior Partner of ORI Capital, a healthcare-focused venture capital firm she launched in 2015 to invest in early-stage, innovative biotech companies globally. She chairs the firm's Investment Committee and has more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare investment sector. ORI Capital manages the ORI Healthcare Funds; its second fund closed at roughly US$260 million in early 2024, following the firm's high-profile success with portfolio company CG Oncology.

Before founding ORI, Song was Head of Goldman Sachs Healthcare Investment Banking for Greater China. Earlier in her career she served as a Managing Director at Cowen Group, a member of the advisory board of AXA Investment Managers, and an executive board advisor to AXA Asia Pacific Holdings. This combination of investment banking and institutional-investor experience underpins ORI's approach of pairing rigorous financial analysis with deep scientific diligence.

A distinctive feature of Song's strategy is what she calls "quantimental" investing — a blend of quantitative and fundamental research. She is the architect of ORI's proprietary AI-empowered research platform (referred to as ORIzon), a big-data system built specifically for healthcare venture investing that combines artificial intelligence with human scientific and clinical analysis to source and evaluate opportunities.

Song holds a B.A. in Economics from Fudan University in China and a master's (M.A.) degree. She has served as an investor-director and board member across numerous ORI portfolio companies, including as Chairman of AffyImmune Therapeutics and as a director of CG Oncology, Enable Injections, Pillar Biosciences, and TriSalus Life Sciences.
