Stefan Beil

Dr. Stefan Beil is a co-founder and Managing Partner of Sobera Capital, a Berlin-based private equity firm established in 2010 that provides liquidity and management solutions for private equity investors through secondary transactions. Within the partnership, his emphasis is on investor relations, operations and portfolio management, with a particular industry focus on healthcare and life sciences. He is one of the firm's two managing directors alongside Johannes Rabini, with the company registered in Berlin-Charlottenburg (HRB 124440).

Before founding Sobera, Beil spent 2003–2010 at Triginta Capital, a private equity firm that emerged from Munich Re, where he co-established the secondary venture division and served as a partner and managing director of several funds. From 1998 to 2003 he was a partner and head of the life sciences division at an international venture capital firm, and earlier in his career he worked as an operational and strategic consultant to healthcare companies. He holds and has held multiple mandates on the boards of directors and committees of portfolio companies.

Beil's background is unusually scientific for a financier: he holds a Ph.D. in Biology and an M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Medicine, with training completed across Germany, the USA, the UK and Switzerland — which underpins his concentration on the firm's healthcare and life-sciences holdings.

A defining moment for the firm came in 2016, when Sobera Capital took over the management of S-Refit AG in Regensburg and its associated Bavarian savings-bank-linked vehicles (S-Refit EFRE Fonds Bayern, medTECH Capital Fonds and S-Partner Kapital), adding 23 active portfolio companies under management effective July 1, 2016 — a transaction emblematic of the firm's "secondary management" model.
