Background
Stefan Erik von Euw is a Swiss investor who leads the Alden Capital family office in Zürich. Alden Capital Ltd. was registered in 2006 (Handelsregister CHE-113.193.400) at Erlachstrasse 25, 8003 Zürich, and provides "family office services, in particular asset management, advice and consolidation, and fund management." He serves as its President and Chair of the board, alongside board member Michael (Mikael) von Euw. He holds a 2002–2004 Master's in Banking and Management from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Hochschule Luzern).
In 2011 he founded Alden Impact Capital AG as the family office's dedicated vehicle for direct, active seed-stage investments. Positioned as a hands-on, entrepreneurial seed investor and a UN PRI signatory focused on impact investing, the firm pursued two broad investment areas: healthcare/life sciences and Sub-Saharan Africa (with an emphasis on agribusiness and food). That same year, Alden Impact Capital acquired the regenerative-medicine spin-offs NovaHep AB and Recopharma AB from the Swedish listed company Allenex AB — the deal on which von Euw is quoted describing the two companies as having "a very exciting focus."
Through these holdings von Euw became closely tied to VERIGRAFT AB, a Gothenburg-based tissue-engineering/regenerative-medicine company (the NovaHep lineage), where he has served as a board director (styrelseledamot). On the agribusiness side, Alden Impact Capital backed African food and cultivation ventures including The African Food Company Lda, EWF-Flowers, and Desert Sun Trade; von Euw has also held operating roles connected to The African Food Company in Mozambique.
Both Swiss legal entities have since been wound down: Alden Impact Capital AG was placed in liquidation and struck from the commercial register around 2018, and Alden Capital Ltd. entered liquidation in January 2020, with von Euw acting as liquidator. His current activity therefore centers on his existing life-sciences board roles rather than active new-fund deployment.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Stage: Seed-stage, direct investments into startups and private companies with high growth potential, taking a "hands-on, entrepreneurial" approach rather than passive capital.
- Two-track mandate: (1) healthcare and life sciences — biotech, regenerative medicine, tissue engineering; (2) Sub-Saharan Africa — agribusiness, food processing, distribution, and cultivation.
- Impact orientation: Alden Impact Capital operated as a UN PRI signatory with an explicit impact-investing focus, blending financial return with development/health impact.
- Value-add: Willing to take board seats and operating involvement (e.g., VERIGRAFT board seat; African Food Company roles) rather than writing a check and stepping back.
