Stephen Babson

Stephen E. Babson is a Managing Director at Endeavour Capital, a Portland, Oregon–based private equity firm founded in 1991 that focuses on lower-middle-market, family- and founder-owned businesses across the western United States. Babson joined Endeavour in 2002, but his relationship with the firm — first as legal counsel and as an investor — dates back to its formation in 1991. At the firm he has worked across the Consumer, Industrials, and Technology & Business Services sectors.

Before entering private equity full-time, Babson had a long legal career at Stoel Rives LLP, one of the largest law firms in the Pacific Northwest, where he served as Chairman. His legal practice concentrated on mergers and acquisitions and securities transactions — a background that maps directly onto the deal structuring and board work central to his current role.

Babson holds three degrees from Stanford University: a B.A. from Stanford, a J.D. from Stanford Law School, and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He has also been active in civic and nonprofit governance, including as a trustee of the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Foundation and Reed College, and as a former board member of the Oregon Symphony.

He is an active board director. Current and past directorships tied to Endeavour portfolio companies and other institutions include Entek, ATL Technology, Point B, Omega Morgan, Columbia Sportswear Company, Pendleton Woolen Mills (former), and Roseburg Forest Products (former).
