Background
Stephen C. Brink has worked in the investment industry — specifically in the small-cap growth asset class — since 1978. He earned a BS degree from Oregon State University. Over his career he has held senior research and portfolio-management roles at multiple institutional asset managers in the Pacific Northwest.
Before co-founding Bridge City Capital, Brink spent 11 years at Mazama Capital Management, Inc., an institutional asset management firm, where he served as director of research, portfolio manager, and research analyst. Earlier, he spent 13 years at Capital Trust Company managing portfolios, client relationships, and staff, and served as chief investment officer of CTC of the Pacific Northwest.
In 2008 Brink co-founded Bridge City Capital, LLC alongside Alex Woodward and Jim Bradshaw. The firm launched its Bridge City Capital Small Cap Growth strategy on July 1, 2009. As a Principal and Portfolio Manager/Analyst, Brink carries primary research responsibility for the industrials sector and shares coverage of health care. The firm is member-owned and singularly focused on actively managing long-only, small-cap growth portfolios for institutions. Outside of work, public bio material notes he has two sons and enjoys biking, golfing, and fishing.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in publicly traded U.S. small-cap growth equities on behalf of institutional clients — this is a public-markets, long-only mandate, not private/venture investing.
- Seeks "quality companies with proven track records, strong financial characteristics and above-average growth prospects at attractive valuations" (firm's stated philosophy).
- Applies a disciplined, repeatable research process aimed at identifying quality small-cap companies positioned for strong relative performance.
- Personal coverage concentration: industrials (primary) and health care (shared).
Notable Investments
- No individual portfolio holdings are attributable specifically to Stephen Brink from public sources. As a small-cap growth public-equity manager, the firm holds positions in publicly listed small-cap companies rather than named private/startup deals. Specific holdings would appear in the firm's regulatory filings (Form 13F / Form ADV) rather than in venture deal databases.
