Sunay Gupta

Sunay Gupta is an engineer-turned-investor focused on renewable energy and climate finance. He earned a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi (2013), then completed the KIC InnoEnergy MSc RENE (Renewable Energy) master's program, studying across European institutions including KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and ESADE Business School, graduating around 2016–2017. His master's thesis work was done as a Renewable Energy Strategy / Market Analyst at EDF in Paris. Before pivoting fully into energy, he spent roughly two years in financial consulting.

From 2017 to 2021 he was at Swedfund International AB — the Swedish government's development-finance institution — first as an Investment Analyst and later as an Investment Manager, working on sustainable investments in developing markets and on how alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals affects company performance (a theme of his TCD2018 talk, "Sustainable Investing"). Since 2022 he has been based in Mumbai, working as an Investment Manager at Sagana, an impact-investing advisory firm, and more recently is associated with Allied Climate Partners (ACP) — a philanthropic/blended-finance organization whose mission is to increase the number of bankable, climate-related projects in the Global South. Across these roles he has built experience in venture, growth, and blended climate finance.

Separately, in 2016 he founded Windiglobe, a startup developing a low-cost "pico-scale" wind turbine capable of generating up to ~100 W for off-grid/decentralized electricity in areas without reliable grid connection — pitched at roughly half the cost of comparable market products. He also mentors students entering the renewable-energy sector and writes about clean-energy careers on his personal blog.
