Background

Sundance DiGiovanni is a veteran of the esports and competitive-gaming industry. In 2002 he co-founded Major League Gaming (MLG) with longtime collaborator Mike Sepso, building it into the world's largest professional video game league and the first televised console-gaming league in the U.S. (2006). He served as MLG's CEO through its growth and its eventual acquisition: on December 31, 2015, substantially all of MLG's assets were acquired by Activision Blizzard for roughly $46 million. MLG's last active branch, GameBattles, was discontinued in January 2024.

Before MLG, DiGiovanni was Worldwide Creative Director at Gotham Broadband, a digital consultancy serving clients including AOL Time Warner, DirecTV, and Sony, and he was ESPN's first gaming correspondent on the show *Cold Pizza*. He studied film at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Over his career he has worked with major brands across his properties, including Pepsi, Toyota, Intel, T-Mobile, Verizon, Red Bull, Microsoft, and Dunkin'.

Following the Activision acquisition, DiGiovanni served as Vice President of Brands & Content at Activision Blizzard from April 2016 to March 2019. In October 2019 he reunited with Mike Sepso to launch Vindex, a global esports infrastructure and technology company backed by an initial ~$60 million raise; its portfolio has included Esports Engine, Next Generation Esports, Belong Gaming Arenas, and the Let's Play intelligence platform. DiGiovanni serves there as Co-Founder & Chief Strategy Officer.

Alongside his operating roles, DiGiovanni is an active angel investor and board advisor, and is a partner and co-founder of the Electronic Sports Group, an advisory firm that helps finance, media, advertising, and sports executives navigate esports deals.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests as an angel, typically in early/seed and founding rounds, drawing on his MLG operating experience to help build companies in esports, media, tech, and video gaming.
  • Focuses on companies enabling content creation, streaming, and the creator economy around gaming. On joining Lightstream's board he said its products are "a powerful suite of tools and unique technologies that power new creative possibilities and unlock streaming as a potential career path."
  • Brings deep brand-partnership and league-building expertise — he is drawn to opportunities where his network across media, advertising, and sponsorship can accelerate a gaming/esports business.
  • Often pairs capital with hands-on involvement (board seats, advisory roles) rather than passive checks.

Notable Investments

  • Lightstream (Infiniscene) — Live-streaming production software for creators; angel investor in the company's first round and appointed to its Board of Directors (May 2019).
  • Aggero — Esports/streaming brand-monitoring and analytics platform.
  • NYXL (New York Excelsior / Andbox) — New York–based esports organization.
  • ManaDia — Gaming/media-adjacent startup (per investor databases).
