Background
Sundip Murthy is Managing Partner of Landon Capital Partners, a direct private equity firm founded in 2015 that invests in lower-middle-market businesses from offices in Boston, Palm Beach (FL), and London. In that role he oversees firm operations, investment initiatives, and portfolio management. He has more than 25 years in private equity and has served on the boards of over twenty middle-market companies.
His career began at Goldman, Sachs & Co., followed by senior investing roles at The Carlyle Group and Ripplewood Holdings LLC, and a Director post at 3i Group plc. He later became Partner and head of the consumer sector at Snow Phipps. In 2019 he joined Norwest Equity Partners (NEP) — the Minneapolis-based middle-market firm behind the "nep.com" email — as a Partner responsible for developing and leading new investment opportunities and portfolio/fund strategy out of NEP's newly established Florida (West Palm Beach) office, sitting on the firm's investment committee and DEI Steering Team.
Murthy holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an AB/BA with Distinction from Cornell University (Class of 1996). Over his career he has held numerous board and governance roles, including at FeraDyne Outdoors, Tasti D-Lite / Planet Smoothie, Teasdale Foods, Phibro Animal Health, Oriental Trading, Dunkin' Brands, and Alliance Hospitality.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in founder-led and family-owned lower-middle-market companies — Landon describes targets as "businesses with unique attributes that are ripe for transformational" growth, frequently serving as the company's first institutional capital partner.
- Control-oriented buyouts in three verticals: Business Services (tech-enabled service models), Consumer Services, and Niche Industrials.
- Focus on companies with ~$5M–$25M EBITDA, sustainable competitive advantages, and exposure to growing market niches.
- Emphasizes a conservative capital structure and operational "business-building" value creation over financial engineering. In a profile from his Norwest years he framed the approach as being "conservative in capitalizing businesses" while focusing on "business building initiatives," and stressed a collaborative culture — "it's not about elbowing each other out of the way but rather lifting each other up."
- Backs management teams and often provides growth capital, add-on acquisition support, and international expansion to portfolio companies.
