Background
Sven van Berge Henegouwen is a Managing Partner at Main Capital Partners and the operational head of the firm's DACH investment team, running its Düsseldorf office. He joined Main Capital in 2011 and has spent his career building the firm's presence in the German-speaking software market, rising to Managing Partner and co-head of the DACH activities.
His academic background is in law and financial economics. He holds an LL.M. in International Business Law from the London School of Economics (LSE), and from Erasmus University Rotterdam both a Master's in Economics & Business (specialization in Financial Economics) and an M.A. in Dutch Law (specialization in Financial Law).
Main Capital Partners itself is one of the earliest movers in European enterprise-software private equity, with more than two decades of specialization in lower-mid-market software buyouts. In June 2026 the firm closed a landmark €5.25bn dual fundraise (Main Capital IX at €4bn and Main Foundation III at €1.25bn), and has historically realized dozens of exits at a weighted-average gross return in the mid-single-digit multiples with a reported loss rate below 0.5%. Within that platform, Sven is the senior partner responsible for sourcing, executing and scaling DACH software investments.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in profitable, established enterprise/B2B software companies — not early-stage or seed startups — taking majority (control) or significant growth stakes
- Buy-and-build platform strategy: back a strong software vendor, then scale it through add-on acquisitions and organic growth into a larger cross-border software group (e.g., HYPE Innovation's four acquisitions since 2019; FOCONIS' banking-software roll-up)
- Firm equity tickets typically ~€5M to €150M per platform, funded from Main Capital IX (€4bn) and the smaller-cap Main Foundation III (€1.25bn)
- Strong emphasis on DACH vertical and horizontal software — procurement, banking/regtech, low-code/BPM, enterprise architecture, marketing tech
- Increasingly focused on AI adoption within enterprise software as a value-creation lever across the portfolio
- Says "yes" to companies with recurring revenue, defensible niche positions, and clear organic + M&A growth runways where Main's operational playbook can accelerate scale
