Background
Tavo Zambrano is a Mexican serial entrepreneur and angel investor, best known as the co-founder and CEO of Skydropx, a Monterrey-based logistics-management platform for e-commerce and retail. Born May 23, 1985 in Tampico, Mexico, he studied Industrial Engineering at Tecnológico de Monterrey (Monterrey Institute of Technology & Higher Education), where his early professional practice at Altamira Terminal Portuaria involved building an expert system for shipping-container arrangement — an early hint of his logistics focus.
His first major venture was an online food-ordering company (branded SeMeAntoja / Taste Space) that operated across Mexico, Argentina, and Chile from roughly 2010 to 2014. That business was acquired by global delivery group Delivery Hero in July 2014. Zambrano was also a 500 Startups Batch 6 founder. The friction he observed in last-mile delivery during that period directly informed his next company.
After the Delivery Hero exit, he launched Skydrop in late 2014 to help restaurants deliver food, then pivoted in 2016 into Skydropx — a platform that aggregates parcel-carrier volume so small and mid-sized merchants get accessible shipping rates, automated label printing, multi-carrier dispatch, tracking, and returns. Skydropx went through Y Combinator's Summer 2018 (S18) batch and has raised funding from investors including Y Combinator, Sierra Ventures, FJ Labs, Variv Capital, and Dynamo. The company now employs a few hundred people, operates in Mexico and Colombia, and expanded into Brazil through Frenet, where Zambrano also serves as a co-founder/CEO of the broader Skydropx Group.
Alongside operating Skydropx, Zambrano invests personally as an angel, describing himself publicly as an "entrepreneur, angel investor, and technology enthusiast" who backs founders building products that solve real problems.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests as an individual angel at the seed / early stage, typically writing personal-scale checks rather than institutional rounds.
- Gravitates toward founder-operators building fintech, logistics, e-commerce, and SaaS/marketplace companies — areas mirroring his own operating experience.
- Strong Latin America (Mexico-first) orientation, consistent with his Monterrey base and YC/LatAm network.
- States his product philosophy as a "strong focus on creating products that solve problems," with strengths in fundraising, operations, product design/management, and user acquisition/retention — the operator value-add he brings to portfolio companies.
- Frames the opportunity in his own sector this way: *"There is still a great opportunity in Mexico to improve the user experience from purchase to delivery,"* noting that *"50% of the stores you order from online in Mexico are not going to give you a direct tracking link"* — signaling a bias toward startups closing real UX/infrastructure gaps in LatAm.
Notable Investments
- Conekta — Mexican payments/fintech infrastructure company; recorded as an early-stage angel investment (around 2015).
- StartXLabs — early-stage startup/studio he has backed as an angel.
