Background

Taylor Greene is a co-founder and partner at Twelve Below, a New York seed-stage venture firm he launched in 2021 with Byron Ling (previously of Canaan and Primary Venture Partners) after the two had worked alongside each other in the NYC ecosystem for roughly a decade. Twelve Below was built around a "small, hands-on partnership" model — deliberately without a large platform team — emphasizing trust and direct founder relationships. As Greene has put it, "We started with a blank piece of paper, designing the firm around that mentality."

Before Twelve Below, Greene spent about ten years at seed-stage firms. He was a Partner at Lerer Hippeau from 2013 to 2018 (the origin of his [hidden] address), then a General Partner at Collaborative Fund from 2018 to 2021. Earlier in his career he held operating and business-development roles, including Head of Sales & Business Development at Altruik (2009–2013) and finance/operations roles at Synapse Group / Time Warner.

Greene earned a B.A. in Economics from Wesleyan University and an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Finance from Columbia Business School. Across his career he has made a large number of early-stage investments (15+ on record via Signal), and he sits on the boards of several portfolio companies including Oula Health, Particle Health, and Kula Bio.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Stage: Leads or co-leads pre-seed and seed rounds — often a company's "first true partner."
  • Check size / ownership: Roughly $1M–$3M into core deals, targeting 10–15% ownership; personal/angel checks in the ~$500K–$2M range.
  • Sectors: Fintech, healthcare and digital/consumer health, energy, SMB, and consumer.
  • Geography: NYC-centric — Twelve Below focuses on New York's founder community.
  • What makes them say yes: "Special founders" with breakthrough ideas and strong drive; the firm bets on relationships and trust rather than a platform machine. Twelve Below plans ~25 core investments per fund plus follow-ons, and 60%+ of its first fund's 21 companies raised follow-on capital.
  • Style: Hands-on go-to-market support and deep, direct partner engagement rather than a large support-staff model.

  • Accrue Savings — Consumer fintech savings platform (Seed, Nov 2021).
  • Fort Health — Pediatric/family mental health company (Seed, Nov 2024).
  • Draftboard — Referral/recruiting marketplace (Seed, Apr 2024).
