Background

Teddy Sagi is an Israeli-Cypriot entrepreneur and investor best known for founding Playtech in 1999. Playtech became a major B2B gambling-software provider and listed in London in 2006. Forbes reports that Sagi later sold down his Playtech stake, including a 12% slice for almost $400 million in 2016 and the remainder for $88 million in November 2018.

After Playtech, Sagi repeatedly used a pattern of backing or building technology platforms, hiring operators, and accessing London public markets. Forbes credits him with taking four companies public on London’s AIM market: Playtech, Market Tech, SafeCharge, and Kape Technologies. SafeCharge, a payments company co-founded by Sagi and David Avgi, was acquired by Nuvei in 2019 for approximately $889 million.

Sagi’s family office, Globe Invest, manages his and his family’s interests. IVC describes Globe Invest as a family office and holding company involved in Sagi’s strategic investments in private companies and listed entities, across software, applications, technology, financial services, and real estate. Public profiles place Globe Invest in Nicosia, Cyprus.

In real estate, Sagi is associated with LabTech and Camden Market in London, plus selected property investments in Europe and South Florida. Commercial Observer reported in February 2024 that he was a passive investor alongside Related Group and BH Group in South Florida projects including Transit Village in West Palm Beach, Fisher Island condos, and a mixed hotel/residential project near the Diplomat Resort.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Sagi’s stated SafeCharge rationale was: “SafeCharge is an excellent Payments and technology company with strong growth potential. It is an important part of our investment strategy and focus.”
  • Globe Invest’s published positioning, via IVC, is strategic ownership across Sagi’s private companies and listed holdings, with a focus on software development, applications, technology companies, financial services, and real estate.
  • He appears to favor platform businesses that can scale internationally, especially where technology infrastructure supports regulated or high-volume markets: iGaming software, payments, cybersecurity/privacy software, and tech-enabled property.
  • He often backs strong operating executives rather than running portfolio companies day to day; in a Real Deal interview cited by Commercial Observer, he described himself in South Florida property deals as a passive investor and said he was “not the decision-maker.”
  • His public investment activity spans early-stage/angel deals, growth-stage ownership, PIPE financing, public-market holdings, acquisitions, and real-estate joint ventures.
