Background

Terry Hu (Chinese name Yongmin Hu) is a co-founder and Co-President of FountainVest Partners, one of Asia's largest independent, China-focused private equity firms. He helped establish the firm in December 2007 alongside Frank Tang, George Chuang, and Chenning Zhao — a team that had formed the core of Temasek Holdings' China investment group. Prior to FountainVest, Hu was a Managing Director at Temasek Holdings of Singapore, where he sat on the firm's global investment committee and headed its real estate investment activities.

Before joining Temasek, Hu spent more than a decade as an investment banker with Credit Suisse and Bear Stearns across Hong Kong and Shanghai, building deep deal experience in Greater China. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from Fudan University in Shanghai.

More recently, Hu has become Chairman and CEO of Twin Peaks Capital Limited, a Hong Kong–based investment firm focused on value investing and long-term "compounders." He has also maintained ties to academia: he was a Global Affiliate Visiting Scholar at Stanford's Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (2019–20) and is a Distinguished Careers Institute (DCI) Fellow at Stanford for the 2025–2026 academic year. Outside of investing, he founded the Peak II Foundation in Hong Kong, which supports underprivileged youth through educational opportunities and mental-health programs.

  • Geography: primarily Greater China and Asia-Pacific, increasingly with cross-border deals into Europe and Japan.
