Terry Myerson

Terry Myerson graduated from Duke University in 1992 with a degree in mechanical engineering. After working in computer graphics, he founded Intersé Corporation, an early web software and data-mining company that Microsoft acquired in 1997 (a deal that reportedly brought him about $16.5 million in stock). He went on to spend roughly 21 years at Microsoft in a series of escalating leadership roles.

At Microsoft, Myerson worked first on business internet services (Site Server, BizTalk Server, Windows Management Instrumentation), then led the Microsoft Exchange team from 2001 for about eight years, building what became a foundation for Office 365. He later took over mobile engineering and drove the rebuild of Windows Mobile into Windows Phone, reporting directly to CEO Steve Ballmer. In July 2013 he was promoted to Executive Vice President of a new operating-systems engineering division, and from 2015 he led the merged Windows and Devices Group — responsible for Windows 10 (700M+ users), Surface, Xbox system software, Windows Server, Intune, Advanced Threat Protection and HoloLens. The Verge once called him "the most important man at Microsoft." He left Microsoft in March 2018 following a major reorganization.

In October 2018, Myerson took on dual part-time roles: Venture Partner at Seattle's Madrona Venture Group (working alongside former Microsoft executive S. "Soma" Somasegar) and Operating Executive at The Carlyle Group, advising their investment teams and portfolio companies. As a Madrona venture partner, he evaluates new investment opportunities and lends management, engineering and business expertise to portfolio companies.

In March 2020 he co-founded and became CEO of Truveta, a Seattle health-data and analytics company backed by a collective of US health systems. Truveta reached unicorn status in January 2025 after a $320M Series C valued the company above $1 billion. Myerson also serves on the boards of the Seattle Sounders FC (which he helped organize a minority-ownership group for in 2019), the Seattle Foundation Board of Trustees, and Duke's Pratt School of Engineering Board of Visitors.

• Increasingly drawn to data, AI and life sciences — "I'm very intrigued by the work that's going on at the intersection of computing and biology," and he set out to deepen his knowledge of genomics and bioinformatics, believing "computing and big data in the cloud can really transform a number of things in life sciences." Truveta's own framing of his post-Microsoft work is "the intersection of data, AI, healthcare, and life sciences."
