Background

Thomas Aebischer is a Swiss finance executive whose career centers on the CFO seat at large industrial and chemicals companies rather than on startup or venture investing. A Swiss Certified Public Accountant, he trained through the Trustee Exams and the School for Swiss Certified Accountants in Zurich and later completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He began his career with the Bern cantonal tax authorities in Switzerland and then spent 1988–1996 with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Zurich and Hong Kong.

Aebischer joined Holcim Group Support Ltd in 1996 and spent nearly two decades with the cement, concrete and aggregates giant, serving as Head of Corporate Controlling (1998–2002) before joining the Executive Committee in early 2011 and becoming Group CFO effective April 1, 2011. As CFO he added responsibility over Procurement, IT, M&A and HTS Accounting & Administration (from September 2012) and over Investor Relations and Risk Management (from January 2014), carrying the CFO role through the Lafarge merger that created LafargeHolcim.

In late 2015 he was named Executive Vice President and CFO of NYSE-listed LyondellBasell, one of the world's largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies, effective January 1, 2016, overseeing treasury, IT, tax, finance and accounting under CEO Bob Patel; he held that post until 2019. He subsequently served as CFO and board member of Singapore/US bioplastics (PHA) manufacturer RWDC Industries (2021–2022) and as interim CFO at Master Builders Solutions (June–December 2023).

Since 2025 he is CEO of the Diethelm Keller Group in Switzerland. In parallel he has built a portfolio of non-executive directorships focused on audit oversight: he chairs the Audit Committee at dormakaba, at Sika AG (since 2024) and at Solvay SA in Belgium (since 2023).

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Note: Aebischer is a corporate CFO and independent board director, not a venture/seed investor. Public sources show no evidence of angel investing, a personal fund, or seed-stage check-writing — the "Seed Round / Institutional Investors" labels in the source stub appear to be mislabeled.
  • Where he exercises capital-allocation and oversight influence is at the board/audit-committee level of established, listed industrial and chemicals companies (dormakaba, Sika, Solvay).
  • Domain depth: building materials/cement (Holcim), petrochemicals and plastics (LyondellBasell), and sustainable/bio-based materials (RWDC Industries PHA bioplastics).
  • Functional lens: financial discipline, controlling, treasury, tax, M&A, investor relations and risk management — the perspective he brings to any board or transaction.
