Background
Thomas Bonde is a co-founder and Managing Partner of Blue Equity, a Danish lower-mid-market private equity firm established in 2013. Blue Equity was founded on the initiative of Danish institutional backers — its lead investors have included the utility group SE/Norlys and pension fund PFA, alongside the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation (Danfoss) and the firm's own management team. Bonde has helped build the firm into a manager of multiple funds that has completed roughly 31 partnerships and 19 exits across its history.
Before founding Blue Equity, Bonde came from a role as a director at PwC in Norway. Earlier in his career he worked in PwC Corporate Finance in Denmark (2007–2011), at the Danish M&A advisory firm ATRIUM Partners (2005–2007), and at Handelsbanken Capital Markets (2001–2005). His background is therefore rooted in corporate finance, M&A advisory, and transaction execution rather than operating or founding startups.
Bonde holds a master's degree in economics (cand.oecon.). At Blue Equity he sits alongside a small partner group that includes fellow Managing Partner Thomas Tvedergaard and partners Christian Møller, Nicholas Liebach (Attorney-at-Law) and Jørgen Smit. The firm describes its model as "investing in people rather than in companies," partnering closely with management teams to provide network, knowledge and capital during the ownership period rather than issuing directives.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in small and medium-sized Danish B2B companies, typically with revenue in the DKK 50–300m range, that "will benefit from the global mega-trends."
- Targets companies "active in narrow niches requiring special competencies" — specialized, defensible market positions rather than broad consumer plays.
- Six stated selection criteria: industry-knowledgeable management, specialized B2B positioning, high-quality products/services, solid business fundamentals, Danish heritage, and sustainability.
- Takes controlling stakes of 40–60% but remains flexible — willing to take minority positions in mature, well-functioning enterprises with growth potential (as it did with GoForward Group in 2026).
- Positions itself as a partnership investor, not a directive owner: "We believe in investing in people rather than in companies," providing "network, knowledge and capital in order to create value during the ownership period."
- This is a private-equity / buyout mandate, not angel or seed investing — founders seeking pre-revenue or early-stage venture capital are not a fit.
