Thomas Mcwilliams

Thomas Francis McWilliams is a long-time private equity investor best known as a Managing Partner of Court Square Capital Partners, the New York–based middle-market buyout firm that spun out of Citigroup in 2006 and traces its roots to Citicorp/Citigroup Venture Capital. McWilliams was a member of the firm's investment team from 1983 onward — spanning both the Citigroup Venture Capital era and Court Square's independent existence — making him one of its most senior, long-tenured investors. As of the firm's recent public materials he is described as a retired Managing Partner and a private investor.

Before his private equity career, McWilliams was Vice President and then President of Shelter Resources Corporation (roughly 1978–1983), a publicly listed holding company with interests in manufactured housing and consumer products. Earlier, he spent about ten years at Citibank, first as a lending officer and later as the officer in charge of Citi's leveraged tax-leasing business. He holds an A.B. from Brown University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Over his career he has served on numerous public and private company boards. Documented directorships include Winthrop Realty Trust, Physiotherapy Associates, Strategic Industries, and VerifyMe, Inc. (a small-cap authentication-technology company he joined as a director in 2016 and where he served as Lead Director). These roles, particularly the VerifyMe seat, reflect the smaller-company and private-investor activity that sits alongside his institutional buyout work.

Outside of investing, McWilliams is active in philanthropy. He is Co-Vice Chair and Treasurer, and Co-Chair of the Mission Related Investment Committee, of the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF), on whose board he has served since around 2014. With his wife Heidi, he helped found the ADDF's "Tomorrow's Breakthroughs Today" scientific symposium series. He has also been associated with the Thomas W. Smith Foundation and The Watch Hill Conservancy.
