Background
Tom Pryma is Chief Operating Officer of AEA Investors and a Partner on the firm's Middle Market Private Equity team. He joined AEA in 1999 and was made Partner in 2003 — a tenure of roughly 27 years with the firm. In his investment role he focuses on opportunities in the Industrial Technology / Advanced Materials and Distribution & Logistics sectors, and as COO he oversees the firm's operations. Before joining AEA, Pryma worked in the investment banking division of Merrill Lynch, where he advised a broad range of private equity investment firms.
AEA Investors is one of the older global private investment firms, founded in 1968 by the Rockefeller, Mellon, and Harriman family interests together with S.G. Warburg & Co. Today it manages approximately $18–19 billion in assets across private equity and private credit strategies, focused on the middle market. Pryma's dual role — senior deal partner and COO — places him at the center of both AEA's investing and its firm-level management.
Pryma graduated with honors from Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business, with a double major in finance and accounting and a minor in mathematics, and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). He remains active with Georgetown, serving on the McDonough School's Board of Advisors and participating in the university's Pivot Program, which supports reentry initiatives for formerly incarcerated individuals. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Delbarton School and, since 2021, the Board of Trustees of SEEDS – Access Changes Everything, a nonprofit supporting high-performing, low-income students.
