Background

Thomas Ribéreau was born and raised in Normandy, France, into a family of entrepreneurs. He studied engineering at École Centrale Paris, then spent roughly 2.5 years in New York — first as a graduate student, earning an M.Sc. in Management Science & Engineering from Columbia University, and then as a fund-manager assistant on a hedge fund at AXA Investment Managers. Drawn back to France by an early interest in private equity and a desire to work directly with companies as an active investor, he returned home to pursue that path.

He joined Argos (now Argos Wityu) in 2014, based in the firm's Paris office, and has spent his career there on the mid-market buyout strategy. Argos Wityu is an independent European private equity group founded in 1989, headquartered in Paris, managing more than €2.3bn across a mid-market buyout fund and a "grey-to-green" Climate Action strategy (an SFDR Article 9 vehicle). The firm positions itself as a "complexity" investor, creating value through transformation and growth rather than financial leverage, and specializing in carve-outs, spin-offs, management buy-ins, de-listings/privatizations and shareholder transitions.

In July 2022, Argos Wityu promoted Thomas Ribéreau to Partner within its investment team. Over his tenure he has led or worked on investments including Talentia Software, Revima, Olinn and EPC Groupe, and on divestments of the Harlé Bickford Group, Revima, Olinn and Salvia Développement, and has supported portfolio companies through some 13 add-on acquisitions. He currently sits on the boards of EPC Groupe and Zodiac Milpro. He speaks French and English, is married with three children, and practices yoga and kitesurfing.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in European mid-market companies (revenues ~€20m–€500m), taking majority/control positions rather than minority venture stakes.
  • Equity checks typically in the €10m–€100m range (Argos Mid-Market: €25–100m equity, €25–250m enterprise value).
  • Sector-agnostic: Argos backs businesses "across all sectors," selecting on situation rather than industry vertical.
  • Focuses on complex situations — corporate carve-outs and spin-offs, management buy-ins (MBI), de-listings/privatizations, operational transformations and shareholder transitions — where Argos's operational and transformation playbook adds value.
  • Emphasizes value creation through growth and transformation, not leverage — actively supporting portfolio companies on buy-and-build (e.g., driving ~13 add-on acquisitions across his companies).
  • Argos frames itself as a partner for entrepreneurs and management teams navigating change; Thomas has described being motivated by his entrepreneurial family background and a desire to "actively support companies as an investor."

Notable Investments

  • Zodiac Milpro — global maker of professional/military inflatable boats; Argos became majority shareholder in 2018. Under Argos, revenue more than doubled in five years to ~€120m (≈90% international). Made add-on acquisitions including German shipyard Yachtwerft Meyer, and in 2022 brought BNP Paribas Développement and Société Générale Capital Partenaires in as minority shareholders. Ribéreau is a board member.
  • EPC Groupe — French civil-explosives and blasting-services group (~€582m scale); Ribéreau supports the investment and sits on the board.
  • Revima — aerospace MRO (maintenance, repair & overhaul) provider (~€504m scale); Argos invested and later exited. Ribéreau worked on both the acquisition and divestment.
  • Talentia Software — French enterprise finance/HR software provider; among his early Argos deals.
  • Olinn — IT equipment lifecycle/asset-management services; Argos acquired and later exited.
  • Salvia Développement — software business; among Argos divestments he worked on.
  • Harlé Bickford Group — a divestment he was involved in during his Argos tenure.
