Background
Thomas Trideau is a career private-equity investor and one of the most senior figures at Arkéa Capital, the ~€1.3 billion capital-investment arm of the Breton cooperative banking group Crédit Mutuel Arkéa. He holds a Master's in Finance and Financial Engineering from Université Paris-Dauphine (1998–1999) and began his investment career at Siparex, one of France's oldest independent private-equity houses, before joining Arkéa Capital in 2011.
At Arkéa Capital he rose to become Director of Investments and, since 2020, a member of the Directoire (management board). In 2022 he took charge of the firm's Capital Development and LBO activities, overseeing a team of investment professionals and a large portfolio of minority and majority stakes in French companies. The firm invests through vehicles such as Arkéa Capital Managers, Arkéa Capital Développement and its Arkéa Capital 3 (AC3) fund, and holds positions in more than 100 companies with a team of roughly 60 people across seven regional offices.
Trideau is closely associated with the firm's regional deal-making. He led investments out of the Nantes office (e.g., the 2019 CWF recapitalization) and has been credited with strengthening Arkéa Capital's presence in Bordeaux and the Southwest, a historic territory for the group. In July 2025 he was confirmed as part of a reinforced four-person leadership "quatuor" — alongside management-board chair Isabelle Combarel (in post since May 2024), development director Stéphane Choukroun and operations director Maëva Bourel — tasked with steering Arkéa Capital toward an ambitious 2030 goal of nearly €3 billion in assets under management, half of it from third-party investors.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Stage & instrument: Development (growth) capital and buyout/LBO transactions in established, profitable French companies — minority or majority — rather than early-stage seed deals.
- Ticket size: Roughly €0.5M to €50M per operation firm-wide, with co-investment possible; his desk (capital development/LBO) sits at the mid-market end.
- What makes them say yes: A committed, ambitious entrepreneur/management team; a differentiated, defensible market position; sustained, profitable growth; and openness to structuring support (external growth/build-ups, corporate structuring) and ESG.
- Partner posture: Arkéa Capital positions itself as a patient, long-term partner (5–10 year horizons) that lets companies "preserve their independence" — a bank-backed evergreen-style investor rather than a fast-flip fund.
- Value-add: In his own framing of deals, Trideau emphasizes supporting companies through corporate structuring, external-growth/M&A operations and ESG issues, and backing platforms that keep growing even through headwinds (e.g., CWF's growth "across remaining licenses" after losing the Burberry license).
- Geography & sectors: France-wide and sector-agnostic, with practical strength in the West/Southwest and in industry, food/ingredients, transport, consumer and business services.
Notable Investments
- CWF (Children Worldwide Fashion) — Vendée-based children's luxury-apparel group (licenses incl. Givenchy, Chloé, Boss; ~€160M revenue, 800 staff, 83 countries). Arkéa Capital entered in June 2019 as a new shareholder alongside Raise Investissement in a recapitalization; Trideau, then head of the Nantes office, publicly explained the deal rationale. (Deal he led.)
- AMI Ingrédients — French distributor of food and specialty ingredients; Arkéa Capital investment (2021) in which Trideau was among the investors. (Firm holding tied to him.)
- Segepo / Capic — Industrial-equipment companies in the Arkéa Capital portfolio (firm-level holdings within his capital-development/LBO remit).
- Malherbe — French transport & logistics group, an Arkéa Capital portfolio company (firm-level holding).
- Selected firm exits (context): Tennaxia and Coaxis (business services), Nomotech (telecom), Terre de Marins (consumer) — realized by Arkéa Capital.
