Background
Timo Sarkki is an Investment Director at Sentica Partners, an independent Helsinki-based private equity firm founded in 2004 that acquires and develops small and mid-sized Finnish companies. He joined Sentica in autumn 2017. His mandate centers especially on portfolio company development, but also extends to screening new investment opportunities and — given the nature of the buyout business — supporting exits.
Before joining Sentica, Sarkki studied in Helsinki, pursuing master's-level studies spanning both law and economics. During his studies he worked primarily in business law and M&A at various law firms, which is where his interest in private equity first developed. (Some third-party aggregators list a Master of Science in Economics/Accounting/Finance; his own firm biography emphasizes the law-plus-economics background, so education details should be treated with that caveat.)
At Sentica he has been active across the firm's recent funds, sitting on boards and acting as a deal-team or case-responsible partner for several portfolio companies. He currently serves as a board member at Veke, the Finnish online home-décor and furniture retailer Sentica acquired in 2022.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests through Sentica's buyout and growth-equity strategy — typically majority/control positions in established Finnish companies, not seed or angel rounds.
- Targets companies with ~€10–100m in revenue that have "ambition to grow their operations to the next level."
- Sector-agnostic but with strong activity in industrials/manufacturing, commercial services, consumer/retail (e-commerce), and healthcare/social-care.
- Sentica's stated philosophy is "long-term and active ownership that creates value" — taking board seats, strengthening management, and driving strategy rather than passive holding.
- Personal focus areas: portfolio company development, new-deal screening, and exits.
Notable Investments
- Veke — Finland's leading online-focused home-décor and furniture retailer (~€58m sales, 2025). Acquired via Sentica Buyout V in March 2022; Sarkki was on the deal team and serves as a board member.
- Purkupiha Group — demolition, dismantling and recycling group; Sarkki was the case-responsible partner under Sentica Buyout V.
- Arjessa — Finnish social-care / social services provider; Sarkki was part of the deal team alongside Mika Uotila and others.
